Shaq took time to get into playing shape, that's why they didn't surpass their best-ever 67-15 season. Of course, that season ended with Kobe crying on the bench.

every game counts.. if they fall 6 or 7 games behind .500 They wont have enough time to make it even if they turn it around.. Its hard to count them out but realistically they wont have a shot if you think about it.. The 8th place team is going to finish probably like 6-8 games above .500 .. lakers will probably start playing better after the all star break but the deficit going to be too much to overcome considering there wont be enough games left

They then played .500 ball over the next 15-20 games while he worked himself back into shape, then they went on a tear.

That Lakers team also had the most dominant center ever in his prime, Kobe 10 years younger, Phil, and much better role players.

You can't even compare the two teams.

I don't know if the Lakers will make it but I sure am hoping they don't. Maybe then some of the juice in the Kobe hype machine will die down and that franchise and its fans can eat some humble pie.

What I don't get is how they're 22th in defense despite a 3 time DPOY in the middle. Even the SSOL Suns with Amar'e in the middle weren't this BAD.

Western conference is soooooo good this year. About 43% of games have been played. OKC, LAC, SAS, MEM, DEN... I believe these five are making the playoffs no matter what. For the three other seeds we got like seven candidates. GSW, HOU, POR, UTA, MIN, DAL and LAL. So yes, LAL could miss the playoffs especially if GSW and HOU can keep their current form. But what about the TV ratings, business?? Playoffs without Lakers is not good for the NBA obv. If Lakers missed the playoffs I'd be 100% sure the league is legit.

The Lakers will make it. None of the Lakers even look worried whenever they do post game interviews. Because deep down they know they'll make it.

Dont put too much weight into post game interviews...just a bunch of crap.

Look at the calendar, the standings and every game they lose, they fall deeper and common sense tells you, this Lakers team and the system they are playing will not make the playoffs.

As a lifelong Laker fan, there is still a chance they make it but I think they are done. This team just doesn't click and D'Antoni isn't the right coach to get them to click.

I hope they dont make the playoffs. It will be better for NBA to promote other teams other than the Lakers or Celtics, and get rid of the big market conspiracy.

But I do think they will make it once everyone gets fully healthy. They just have too much talent to not so. They will go on a winning streak to get back in the race, it's just matter of time.

It all depends on how big of a hole the Lakers potentially get in, until Gasol and Dwight recover from their strained vagina injuries. At a certain point, the hole will be just too deep for anyone to climb out of.

Kobe's defense at times this year has been absent, (kind of off and on),

Nash still isnt' a good defender.

Jamer.ison can't defend.

They're 20th in defensive efficiency too.

Anyone watching can see that Dwight isn't the Dwight of years past after back surgery and no one else on the team plays defense, not Kobe, not Pau, not Metta, no one.
