Gay 3-way satisfies all (MEM-PHX-DEN)

Post#1 » by basketbob » Wed Jan 9, 2013 1:59 am

MEM out: Gay
MEM in: WChandler, CBrewer, Mozgov

Mem gets under tax this year (i think), gets competent replacement for gay who makes $10M per year less. Chandler's health 'insured' by inclusion of expiring brewer. Moz also expiring, useful

PHX out: Gortat, Dudley, Frye
PHX in: Gay, Koufos, QMiller

Phx gets their star without completely screwing up rebuild. Losing Frye's contract effectively makes Gay a $10M/yr player, at which (net) price he's much more attractive

DEN out: WChandler, Koufos, CBrewer, Mozgov, QMiller
DEN in: Gortat, Dudley, Frye

Den gets more consistent version of two rotation guys (CBrewer, Koufos replaced by Dudley, Gortat).

PHx still needs to lose Beas, Den still needs outside shooting, as does Memphis. Would require too many teams to fix all.

That is a great haul for Denver...
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Denver makes out really well here. I like it.

Gay 3-way satisfies all

OK time to go to bed. I can't even tell if these are blatantly obvious or completely unintentional anymore.

This seems like a pretty solid deal for all.

If the Suns could get Gay for Dudley, why would they throw in Gortat? For Koufos and Miller?

Not close for the Suns. PHX doesn't view Frye as dead weight either, so his inclusion doesn't benefit PHX.

Thought DEN was taking dead weight . Apparently would have to take beasley instead, and would. So, to answer your first question, For Koufos, Miller, and 6M x 2.5 yrs cap (and now chemistry) relief, not to mention that "Suns could get Gay for Dudley" hasn't been established.

Beasley could replace Al Harrington's critical role of giving dre miller whole rest of play off (you could practically hear Dre last year, "here, i'm gonna go have a smoke").

Argument for Koufos is same as argument for Gortat. Production per dollar. relative value. Koufos is the right age, though.

early reaction would suggest DEN shouid add maybe a pick or player they could add for one.
if they did, would it still be a good deal for DEN?

I can't imagine Wilson Chandler's stock is super high right now. I think MEM would want more than what's offered in this package.

Agreed. And I would be very surprised if Phoenix did view Frye positively at this point. Not saying they would use Gortat to salary dump him, but he definitely doesn't seem positive value.

He is not negative value.

Most likely case is to view him as an expiring contract because he will be elligible for an injury exemption.

If not he counts against the cap but costs no money since insurance will pay him.

Or he can actually play in which case he is getting paid market value.
