I disagree. Cuban is strictly a businessman at his core. He has always talked about how it's better to bottom out than win 30-45 games. Dirk has also said that he think the Mavs should trade him if they're not in contention.
I don't think they'll trade him for win-now players, but I could easily see them trading him. Cuban got where he is by always thinking of the future and being ready for what's next. That is his core philosophy. He is one of the few owners in any sport who would trade a guy like Dirk in that situation.
They're also trying to free up cap room to sign CP3 and Howard. A Dirk trade could do that for them, and would also give them a chance at a top-7 pick (or even top-3). I think that would be very hard for Cuban to pass up as a businessman. Loyalty won't be as much of a factor as it is with other people.
Something involving Dirk to LAL, Pau to a third team, and expiring contracts plus youth/picks to Dallas would make a lot of sense.
