Blazers acquires an entire bench from the Suns

Post#1 » by hcsilla » Mon Jan 21, 2013 11:42 am

PHO gives Shannon Brown, Telfair, O'Neal, MIN pick (top13 protected in 2013 and 14, top12 protected in 2015 and 16, if Minnesota does not convey to Portland a first round pick by 2016, then Minnesota shall convey to Portland Minnesota's own 2016 and 2017 second round picks.)

PHO gets Meyers Leonard, E. Williams

The Blazers gets upgrades at backup PG, SG and C. The future late lottery-mid 1st round pick makes up for the youth they loose in Leonard.

The Suns convert their expiring assets and a future 1st rounder to a young promising center. They increase the probability of getting the Lakers' lottery pick by helping immediately one of their play-off contenders.

Then the Suns can trade Gortat for Perkins and TOR pick whick frees up playing time for Leonard.

I'd be willing to give up Leonard to Phoenix but only if Gortat is coming back.

Almost a complete bench and a future 1st rounder isn't enough for Leonard?

I don't see JO leaving Phoenix medical staff and I don't see Portland trading Leonard.

Not in this situation. IF Portland were to trade Leonard, they would definitely attach another player to get a vet Center (Gortat). Besides, O'Neal in Portland is not a great match right now.

I'm sorry. What I meant was that I would be supportive of something like Leonard and Hickson for Gortat without any of the other pieces.

I believe the Wolves have the option to send their pick or the Memphis pick to PHX, as it stands now it looks likely they'll be shipping out the Memphis pick this offseason.

Portland fans would want the Phoenix medical staff included in this trade

Telfair and Brown aren't good. O'Neal will be lucky to make it through the year healthy.

Good or not, healthy or not, that is debatable. They all are better than the Blazers have on their bench right now.

better, sure. But Blazers aren't doing anything this year, so what they do is trade away a lottery picked Center for scrubs we don't really want and a lottery protected pick. That's an easy no.

No we aren't trading Leonard's potential for a bunch of expirings and a pick we likely wont get for a few years.

The pick is not lottery protected, it is top13 and 12 protected.

I thought that the Blazers is still in the hunt for the play-off.

oh wow, 1 and 2 spots at the very end. It's basically lottery protected.
Sure, they're in the hunt for the 7th and 8th seed. They're not going to give up Leonard for crap to get there. That's rather short sighted.

Then Leonard wasn't a lottery picked center either since we know that 1 and 2 spots do not count and #12 is basically a lottery protected pick according to you.

he was picked 11. The trade boils down to Leonard for that pick. Worst part is the mention by the MN fan that they can put the Memphis pick in, which maes it exchanging a lottery picked C for a late 1st. no.

This seems to make sense to me. Phoenix has to strip it down and get worse, frankly. Trading Gortat for Leonard gives them a high upside prospect that they can start to groom as well as revs up the tank.

I think Freeland, Leonard and a lotto-protected first (with descending protection) is a fair package for Gortat.

Gortat would give PDX a nice boost and he's on a very reasonable deal through next season. By my count the Blazers would be some $12M under the cap this summer with which to keep Hickson and bolster the rest of the bench.

No, that is not correct.

Lon Babby clarified earlier that if the Grizzlies convert their pick to MIN (which they will if they make the PO) and the Wolves don't (which they probably won't if they will miss the PO) this year then the Suns will get MIN's pick in the next 3 years.

great, you can feel free to argue semantics. I'll stop with, this is an easy no for the Blazers, because for them, it boils down to Leonard for a protected pick. Not interested.

I also like where something built around this trade proposal instead of OP's is going.
