OT Trade: Grizz send 3 to CLE

Post#1 » by Cigamodnalro » Tue Jan 22, 2013 2:19 pm

Speights, Selby, Ellington, and a 2nd round pick for Jon Leuer. Ellington may or may not be involved, and Leuer may or may not be waived after completion of the deal.

6 million in savings with Ellington, 4m in savings without. Grizz fall below luxury tax and would not need to move Gay or Z-Bo. Their bench is pretty lacking now though.

Steve Kyler @stevekylerNBA
The draft pick going to Cleveland is a first round pick and its got protections.

Not a bad haul for a guy they picked up off of the waiver wire and some of that cap space. Ellington is a decent player on an expiring contract, Speights has a 16.3 PER and is a solid young big, and Selby was one of the top PG prospects in the nation as recently as two years ago and was MVP of the Las Vegas Summer League this past summer.

Grizzlies lol, they could have got assets and cap for Rudy Gay and had a better shot with that then now with no bench

Grizz maybe going the Suns route after Sarver bought them? Giving away draft picks for cap savings....

No fan wants to see that.

Speights and Darrell Arthur are basically the same player, and you don't need to develop Selby with Wroten around. Getting under the tax line means that they won't have to treade Rudy for 80 cents on the dollar. Smart move.

I asked this on the GB, but ill ask it here too. With Memphis rumored to be shopping Gay and Zbo, who exactly is the face of the franchise there anymore? Gasol? Conley? Tony Allen?

Until a bigger trade goes down, it's still ZBo and Rudy. I'm pretty sure they made this move to keep from having to shake up their top 5 before July.

I fkn called this scenario 5 days ago in the speculation thread! Speights and a pick to a team (i hoped Orlando) to help them get under the cap. I should be a GM!

The pick the Cavs will receive in this salary dump trade is potentially better than the pick the Magic received in the Dwight deal. smh. Apparently luxury tax relief is more important than talent to most of these owners.

Here in Memphis, Zbo is mostly the face of the Grizz, followed by TA and Marc Gasol. Memphis is a blue collar city and these guys have the personalities that fit in line with the blue collar persona that is Memphis. Trading RG22 would be the better option since he would gain more assets back to Memphis. If Zbo is traded, it would be determinal to the Grizz b/c he provides that inside/outside tandem with Marc Gasol. The Grizz work better with the two of them providing that punch. What they need now, are consistant shooters who can help spread out the offense and keep the defense honest.

Very happy the Grizz kept their core together. I think they could make a run for the ship if they play like a team. Having a perimeter defense of Tony Allen, Gay and Conley is just sick. Then, you got the one two punch down low. I dig that team.

^^That's why the Zbo trading business has no legs. He's a Grizz for now.
