OT: Anthony Davis injures ankle. Again.

Post#1 » by kmatrixg » Tue Jan 22, 2013 4:53 pm

First off, let me say Anthony Davis is a hell of a talent. Don't get me wrong. I don't think you go with anyone else at #1 in last year's draft. But, with that said - is New Orleans unlucky for HAVING to draft Davis, given they had the #1 pick and could not reasonably go with anyone else?

This is the 3rd time in 10 months Anthony Davis has injured his ankle, not counting the knee problem that held him out for 11 games earlier this season. He obviously needs to add some weight, mostly in the muscle department, but will that help him entirely with his tendency to tweak ankles and knees?

A lot of people around the world have what is called "ligamentous laxity" a condition that causes their ligaments to be naturally stretchy - it's degenerative over time and things like this flare up. I've had left shoulder reconstruction, 2 bad knees and planning a surgery on the right shoulder, so it's not something to mess around with.

Is this something that you guys think will be happening over the course of his career? Is he going to be a career "66 Games Played" type player?

Some people saw this coming because of his growth spurt.

I don't make a big deal out of it. Last nights injury is one that probably would have affected most players because he landed on a foot, but he's not going to miss any games.. just tweaked it.

I actually think this is bad news. I also thought that he's been very injury prone to the point I think ROY goes to Lilliard. It's just not a good look. Plus the more muscle he adds its worse for his knees and ankles. I've torn a ligaments in my right ankle and it was horrible. I legit heard the "pop". Till this day my right ankle is weaker than my left.

I'm just kidding. Although, Camby did eventually string together some relatively injury free seasons later on in his career he also started his NBA career extremely injury prone. I bet NOH is just treating him with kid gloves since he's their franchise and they want to tank anyway. He'll probably be fine.

It isn't serious, he's already said he's probably playing the next game

Maybe but its no doubt he's injure prone already. IIRC he's had knee issues since the league. A concussion and multiple ankle injures.

It's not even an injury though. He rolled it, which any player can do when they land on someone's foot, and they were precautionary keeping him out because of his earlier injury for obvious reasons

i thought that he would be injured over and over this season due to his skinny structure and heavy minutes .. coming true so far. he will have to add at least as much muscle as garnett. garnett came out that skinny too and hes aiight

Anthony Davis has Marcus Camby written all over him. Same type of game, same body type and both are consistently injured.

Definitely an interesting comparison.. It'd be a shame to see Davis have consistent ankle problems because of his play in the olympics.

Camby was consistently injured early in his career, not later. He's played in almost a thousand games.

AD is not Camby. He's 19 and he's putting up a higher PER than Camby ever has. His TS% right now is right around Camby's career high as well. Davis is going to be much, much, much better than Camby on the offensive end. Given what he showed at Kentucky and how he's looked this year on defense (really good, his DTRG is 103 while the team's is 109 so you can see the impact) he'll probably be better than Camby on the defensive end as well. Even if Davis does end up being injury prone (I haven't see anything yet to suggest it), it won't be much of a comparison between the two in terms of impact when healthy.

When I showed the camby picture it was more to remind everybody of the image Camby once had. Skinny, injury-prone... amazing help defence. As others have said though, AD's upside is much higher because he actually has a very impressive looking jumper and a solid handle for his height.

Their frames do remind me of one another though.

Oh ya I know, I know I was responding to the guys above me actually. Should have quoted one.

Agree with the frames. Although I could see AD being bigger. Those shoulders are just massive.
