Ibaka's Illegal Screens

Post#1 » by nyhuskyfan » Wed Jan 23, 2013 6:02 am

Crunch time of last two games (Nuggets, Clippers) he has just been leveling people with screens like a pulling offensive lineman. Not even close to legal. He was worse against the Nuggets (and got away with them), but he fouled out on another doozy tonight.

I always thought KG was the gold standard of the illegal screen, but given that Ibaka is pretty young and has his whole career in front of him, he might pass him.

I only see Dwight getting called for these. Perkins, Ibaka, KG etc get away with anything.

False. Nearly every player that leads with their forearm get called for these. Dwight gets murdered on offense down low, but refs have laid off him on the majority to even it out.

OKC in general has become Stern's newest pet project now that LeBron rang. KD getting paraded to the FT line, Ibaka being allowed to set illegal screens...

Didn't the Thunder just lose a game in Denver because they got called for like 3 straight offensive screens?

They did, but after that Ibaka had 2 blatant screens which weren't called.

Ibaka's screens are worse than Garnett's. He literally levels the defender every time.

Exactly.

I dont know why, If you place the screen right and your player uses them to a pinch you dont have to search for contact like Ibaka/Perkins have been doing.

KG gets called for it a lot. Although he's smart about it. Once he gets called once or twice he steps back into line.

Refs calling illegal screens in the league is a joke. We all know KG and a lot of other bigs would foul out every game if they called illegal screens correctly. The thing with Ibaka as the OP mentioned, is he has been leveling players with illegal screen the last couple of games. It dangerous to the player and also himself. I hope someone on his team points it out to him before someone gets hurt.

He's been getting called on it so I'm not sure what the issue is.

No. The foul calls went in OKC's favor all night, had the calls been even, it would have been a 20 pt. easy win for the nuggets. Look at the FTA.

They need to let the players play; I am a fan of NBA basketball not NBA officiating. I wish they could just play with no refs; what a dream~!
