That's a myth. Garrincha was heads and shoulders above anyone else in 1962 (Pele didn't even play for most of the tournament) and also in 1958.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Considering all the awards Messi is receiving and his team mates at Argentina, World Cup '14 being so close. Short of injury, absolutely no reason for the team not making the QuarterFinals. And yeah Barcelona winning atleast 1 Champions League title in the next 2 seasons is a must.

This guy is getting Michael Jordan treatment.....without the actual Championships. La Liga is a joke

He's won the champions league twice, not an easy task. I keep hearing about how la liga is a joke. Why? All of their teams Valencia, Malaga, Barcelona, and Madrid moved on to the next round of champions league. La Liga does well in Europa League too. Last years semifinals had A. Madrid, Valencia, and A. Bilbao. Barcelona has to compete with Madrid for La Liga, whom many consider one of the top 3 clubs in the world. Tell me what other league Barcelona wouldn't be a favorite to win? Maybe Bayern would give them a run in Budesliga, but Barcelona would be the hands down favorite in every league in the world.

Also La Liga is a joke because only 2 clubs contend? Isn't that the case everywhere? EPL has become the Madrid derby with the fall of clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool. Looks like only Chelsea might challenge them in the next few years. Bayern has a huge lead in the Bundesliga and that league is dominated by them and Dortmund. Juventus won the title undefeated last season in Italy. France is all about Lyon and big spending PSG. Poerugal is dominated by Benefica and Porto.

To take away from what Messi and Barcelona does is the joke here, not la Liga.

This is Pele. Three times Fifa World Cup champion, two Interclubs World Cup, the greatest winner of Brazilian National Championships on an era of Brazilian football dominance that probably won't ever be emulated once again in football. Really, there was a lot of balance in Brazil that time, with an amount of offensive talent that probably won't ever be matched again, Pele was just too good to be contained. A player way ahead from his time. In 60s and 70s, no European Club wouldn't be favorites against Brazilian teams.

Maradona doesn't really compare with Pele. Pele has a much better resume and much better productivity on the pitch. Maradona just happened to be on an era that TV was broadcasted on a global level. I also have 4 or 5 player over Maradona on my GOAT list, but probably on pure ability, or pure genius, this might be Maradona. A true midged, kind of chubby, that could only go left could go out and simply show magic on court. Probably the prettiest play of all time.

Messi is on pace to have a comparable case for the GOAT, just need to prove himself outside of Barcelona, at Argentina's National Team. He's imo tied with Pele, if not already surpassed him as a club player. What he does at UCL is unbelievable.

Please tell me you forgot the green font.

Pele has a bigger gap over the rest of the football pantheon than Jordan does over the NBA pantheon.

Could you explain why you think this please ?

Because he was a revolutionary player like George Mikan.
Because he is a winner like Bill Russell.
Because he is the in game recordist like Wilt Chamberlain.
Because he has the longevity records that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Because he rose above all on the most dominant generation of offensive players the football has ever seen, like Jordan rose above the 90s crop of superstars in the NBA.

- Jordan was the first and only Guard since to win a Championship without a dominant offensive bigman. That's revolutionary
- Jordan won a Title every full year he played in the 1990's. That's winning
- Jordan has accomplished every significant single season record, twice.
- Longevity. Eh. Having great team mates helps in this regard. In 5 x 5 Basketball, that's difficult
- Jordan is also the greatest defensive guard of all time. Can Pele say he was a great defender....Nope.

Lol,,Pele role was a striker/offensive midfielder..

in Football/Soccer, its rarely offensive players rated based on their defense ability, or as important attribute to have, no. Though some offensive players transformed himself to defensive role, like Dion Dublin, Lotthar Mathaeus, Zambrotta & so on.. in football, you had your role, offensive or defensive, though many wingback/fullback/defensive midfielder/midfielder that good in both offense & defense, but being good in offense/defense, its rarely be important factor to decide footballer greatness, especially when you're a offensive players.

c'mon

Lets be honest here, Messi's goals are a little inflated due to playing in Barcelona and La Liga. La Liga is a pretty below average league, especially considering that Barca has some of the best players in the world on the team. Not taking anything from Messi, he is a monster, but no way does he put up these stats on another club or in another league and he is yet to perform at an elite level on the international stage

How exactly is La Liga a pretty below average league? Please don't say the cliche that because Barcelona and Madrid are so much better than everyone else. I will agree that Messi's and Ronaldo's goal tallies are inflated due to them playing for loaded teams, but they would both still dominate any other league in the world.

22 year old C Ronaldo managed to scored 42 goals in England :dontknow:

Their hauls the past few years may be slightly inflated, but Ronaldo/Messi would score 50-60+ in any league in the world
