All Time Decade Discussion

Post#1 » by Snakebites » Tue Jan 22, 2013 2:58 am

A couple years back we played an ATL type game in which every player had to be from a different decade. I'd like to revisit the concept but with a few different rules.

Starters:

Must have ONE player starting from each of 5 decades: The 60s, the 70s, the 80s, the 90s, and the 00s.

Please note that a season's decade is determined by the SECOND numbered year, for example the 69-70 year is considered part of the 70s, not the 60s. Also note that the 00s also includes the 09-10, 10-11, and 11-12 seasons. No selections for the current season permitted.

Every starter must play a minimum of 28 minutes.

Bench:

Your bench must include:

1 6th man who played in at least 60 games and came off the bench for more than half of them.
1 Rookie player. May be a starter.

The remainder of your bench minutes MUST be given only to players who have never played in an all star game. Your first two bench players, the 6th man and the Rookie, are permitted to be all stars in present or former/future seasons.

Open to any proposed changes to these rules while signups are taking place. Require 12 players, would like 16.

I'm in. I think 12 would be a good number overall, and I like the addition of 28 min per starter.

^My general distaste for the round robin format and the depth of this game make me want 16.

If we get to 12 quickly I might consider waiting to see if we can scare up a few more. If we take a while to limp to 12 participants we'll just start it at 12 though.

If I recall correctly this format was the only ATL I have won. So yes I want in. Trying to get this 1995 Sonics monkey off my back.

I was going to sit this one out, but T-Mac took that option from me. Looks fun.

I'm down.

Could we roll with 8? Or is 12 needed? I'm not sure we'd get 12 right now, so if we need that many we may have to wait again.

The draft pool is too deep for 8 to really create much of a dynamic game. When you run with a deep draft pool and a low number of teams all of the teams are just too good and there isn't enough separating them.

A draft isn't really super interesting unless there's a point in it where good players that fit your needs get harder to find.

To roll with 8 we'd need something with fewer players available....

Shame too. It seems like 16 team games have become a thing of the past and even 12 team games are becoming less common, at least of this genre.

I will just mention here a week after this thread went dead, that if you were ever able to scare up enough people to threaten a 16 team game, I would join. Not interested in smaller numbers though. You get Bill, I'm stuck with Wilt oh darn games are boring.

12 is a min # still looking for a few more GMs. This is still in progress.

The problem is that some may think this is dead and aren't looking at it anymore, so unless all people are checking this thread at least a few times a week, some of the people who already signed up may not be around. Idk, maybe they will though, but we are still a few off.

It goes without saying that I'd still be interested in doing/running this thing if we could get enough people to sign up.

Don't be shy, people!

Getting interest in anything but GM A Team type games is becoming tougher and tougher on this board. I guess there's been a bit of a shift in terms of the board population and what most people are interested in.

That's why originally having these on the PC Board was solid. You were able to get more potential players from the bigger pool.

Perhaps just start a thread there directing people this way?

Not sure if I have the time for this one, but can act as judge/mediator if need be.

Interestingly if we count the people who signed up before we actually have 11 now, just one shy.

If people who signed up a long time ago are still interested, it would be great if they could check in.

Unfortunately right now I'm not able to PM people.
