Kobe-to-Pistons deal in 2007 confirmed by team source

Post#1 » by iamworthy » Tue Feb 19, 2013 2:32 am

Kobe-to-Pistons deal in 2007 confirmed by team source, Detroit's WXYT reported it then

Detroit radio station WXYT-AM (1270) that the Pistons and Lakers agreed to a swap that would have sent Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton, Amir Johnson and a first-round pick to the Lakers for Bryant.

The proposal took different forms at different times and might have included multiple first-round draft picks and/or other players.

When the finalized offer was presented to Bryant, he nixed it, according to both the Yahoo! report and the Pistons source.

Maybe this will shut the shaq homers up about blaiming Kobe. Dr.Buss marched to his own beat. He made the ultimate decisions for his team. It seems Dr. Buss didn't take no ****,and to me that is a good thing.

Always tried to tell guys that Dr.Buss was not one to be played with. He was fearless, and calculating. I still remember when somebody ask him about trading Kobe and he said, " We'll accommodate him if that's what he want's".

Then that's when Kobe got on local radio saying " I don't wanna leave, I just want to win"

I would have cried if that happened. Not just for losing Kobe but for the trash coming back. Thank God. Actually, thank you Mr Buss.

i don't think that's all that terrible tbh. obviously in hindsight it does, but at the time i think i remember being willing to settle for gordon/deng type of packages. getting two of the top 4 players from a perennial title contender doesn't seem that bad.

I don't want to see Kobe in another uniform..EVA.
I'm so proud he will live and die as a LAKER.

With his greatness , and even with his faults, I am so proud he will always be on our side. Will go down in flames FiGHTiNG or go up hoisting a trophy on a parade bus.

Living in Michigan I remember this like yesterday. Everyone was excited to get Kobe. You should of saw all the pistons fan that believed that Kobe would accept being a piston. People were going crazy because they thought that Billups, Kobe, Rasheed, and Ben met dynasty. I never believed it for a second. The day Kobe chooses to live in Michigan instead of California.....

I still remember the Bulls rejecting the deal around Deng because they didn't want to give up Hinrich. That worked out pretty well for them.
