Woody may change starting lineup...

Post#1 » by 2010 » Fri Feb 22, 2013 1:20 am

Mike Woodson said today at practice he may change the starting lineup to infuse some offense and rookie Chris Copeland is a candidate to come in for struggling Jason Kidd or Iman Shumpert. Woodson said Amar’e Stoudemire likely is not under consideration.

Woodson said he’s been disappointing in the lack of offensive production from starters Iman Shumpert and Jason Kidd, who was scoreless last night.

“I’m not getting it,’’ Woodson said. “If you start out by playing defense, it’s not a problem. You still have enough with Raymond and Melo to make up the difference. We’ve been fighting on both ends, struggling to get stops, struggling to put the ball in the hole. I’m not gone going to sit tight and say it’s OK. I got to figure it out. If it means changing the lineup, then we have to do that.’

I'm concerned with 2 things:

1. He cites defense as the problem, but contemplates inserting Copeland into the SL

2. He thinks Melo and Ray are enough for a productive offense.

I think Grunnie's statement about the league catching up to our offense was his way of saying our $100M scoring forward needs to be incorporated into our (starting) attack; he's not a bench player yet in his career and he's still a very dangerous scorer. We are struggling to score and defend to start games. At least one of those problems can be addressed by inserting Amare into the starting five.
Woodie, you're on.

Sounds pretty inconsistent but let's see what changes he makes and his explanation for them before we kill the guy.

I have faith he'll figure it out

Uhm, I saw no quote where Woody said he wanted to start Copeland, and why would Copes be front frunner when he's been buried on the bench for lack of defense?....

This stinks of media speculation...from the Post no less, you all should know better

So let me get this straight. We've been struggling defensively and his solution is to put the worst defensive player on our team in the starting lineup? A guy that really does nothing but try to find his own shot? :-?

Let's hope Woodson isn't this stupid.

This is definitely not the lineup. Woody said no Stat because the team has had success with Melo at the four. Stat is a bench player likely for the rest of the season (including playoffs) unless Woody changes this mindset.

Cites defense as the problem, "doesn't understand" it's ineffectiveness...Somehow hasn't realized small ball line-ups are being exploited by opposing offenses.

He won't move off Melo at the 4.

I can't root for this tool anymore. I am starting to think it would be best for them to just spiral out of control. Maybe he can be fired this year.
