im so tempted to start a thread on the GB:

I know we all joke about "If X happens, I'll stop being a fan of the Lakers."
And I'm not the biggest Kobe fan in the world...
But we've stuck with Kobe this long, and the end of his career is right there... And Dwight has done nothing for LA so far...
The Lakers pushing Kobe out for Dwight would make it extremely difficult to continue to support the team.

this is the the type of stuff d12 should be saying all the time, not "nobody controls what happens in the off-season"

Mike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan

Does Dwight see himself as part of Lakers' future? "Yeah, I do. That's what we've always talked about since the first day I got here."

still tempted to start that chad for thread for kicks

Even if they wanted to push him out how would they do it?.I can't think of a team he would waive his no trade clause for and they aren't going to waive him.

However, with that said, I've heard rumblings that if Howard told Laker officials this summer that the only way he'd stay in LA is if Kobe leaves, the Lakers could end up choosing Howard over Kobe. It's an unlikely scenario, but one worth watching.

wow! do not believe Kobe will be out but the mere fact that this is being headlined is crazy

KEVIN DING ‏@KevinDing
I asked Dwight about his role in Lakers offense. Revelatory answer: "We have years to play with each other, so it's a learning process."

Change the title: Dwight alluding to staying with Lakers?

And be prepared to change the title a couple dozen times before summer.

Its win-win.

Stay, we have long term presence in the middle.

Leave, we'll have tons and tons of cap space with 3 guys to hold us up for a while until we bring in the next STAR.

If Howard walks this summer, then the Lakers are $4 million over the cap. That means that next season, the Lakers would have to go with Nash, Bryant, Gasol and the current group of role players. While I believe that "addition by subtraction" is possible, I don't think that would provide too much faith in the paying fan base. Bryant, especially, wants to compete every year that he has remaining.
