Whichever team gets new ownership or demands a new stadium which the public can't pay for. No team is safe except for the big moneymakers in major markets, to think otherwise is naive.

I doubt Atlanta gets moved, our owners suck, they recently sold the Thrashers but they're required to stay in Atlanta under the terms of a bond refinance agreement that the Atlanta Spirit have with the city of Atlanta, the Hawks can't move for at least another 5 years until the Bonds are paid off completely. Let's say that the owners pay off the bonds in a year(which isn't likely as they have to pay over $123 mil) the Hawks still can't move, there's a $75 million penalty if they do move before the 2018-19 season and there's no way that the cheap Atlanta Spirit will pay $75 million for that. Even if money isn't the problem you have to take into account the TV deals, Atlanta is one of 3 big US sports cities that has big-money TV contracts. (TNT is Atlanta based, as is NBA TV and NBA.com). Atlanta is America's 8th largest television market and there's no way that Stern will just let the Hawks leave Atlanta.

Why are people saying Toronto? If anything, they need to put another team in Canada. Move Charlotte/Milwaukee to Vancouver.

Anyone saying Toronto seriously needs to educate themselves.

LOL what is your justification for Detroit? I can't even imagine.

Attendance. Detroit has become a ghost town and now they can't even give away free tickets.

Yes Detroit fans used to be great and pack the palace. Yes the Pistons were good. But now they are putting up WNBA like attendance.

What the hell is this crap?

The owners are literally handing out free tickets yet they barely fill half of the arena. They have been sucking up millions of dollars from the NBA over the last several years.

If I was Stern I would want to contract the bucks, move the Grizzlies to Seattle, and get rid of Detroit. Then move New Orleans to the eastern conference.

Of course this will never happen but it would make the NBA better and get a crap load of more money.

GTFO.

3 NBA championships, bad boys, goin' to work team.

Talk about ignorance. NO team is good ALL the time. Not even the Celtics, or the Lakers. You don't move a top 5 franchise because their players age and they rebuild.

Atlanta/Milwaukee are better candidates...

Taylor is looking to sell his majority stake in the team but he is also looking to make a gradual transition over a number of years and he has always been committed to keeping the team in Minnesota. It's certainly possible in the future but I don't think it is that likely.

I hate relocations.

All those relocations and re-brandings just make it worse.

Lol @ Toronto

We haven't seen the playoffs in years, and still put up bigger attendance numbers than most playoff teams.

We ARE a sports town, we just suck.

Peep the forums and recent games against New York and Memphis, we're not going anywhere.

We're owned by Bell/Rogers, even financially we're doing fine.

Just pulled this from espn out of curiosity..Here's the bottom 5 teams in the attendance rankings(percent of arena filled.)

5.Wizards 78.1 %
4.Kings 77.8%
3.Cavs 77.6 %
2.Bucks 77.0%
1.Pistons 63.1%
That's just not even close..

So what? Just give em time and everything will be fine. They got a nice future ahead of them.

If the team is good, people will watch em. No need for relocations, just get your work done and its all good.

It's too bad Detriot got hit hard by recession. And we all know Cleveland was hit by LeDecision.

lol @ relocating the Pistons when they have been one of the most successful NBA franchises in winning and have 3 championships.

Whoever said they are giving away tickets are basically wrong. Tickets have gotten more expensive, and are far more expensive than Cleveland games. The new owner believes it is pointless to give away tickets and would rather rebuild his brand from scratch than brand it as something only considered because it's super cheap.

The new owner has been constantly renovating to add improvements. The arena is privately owned too. On the topic of owners, the death of the last owner handicapped the team management for 2 years going back a few season ago, which makes current evaluations of them more pointless. Half of the past 4 years were an ownership transition and half are in a point of heavy rebuilding.

But, hey, they are a rebuilding team after a huge streak of unprecendented success, it is a good idea to move teams whenever they are rebuilding. That is a good way to encapsulate the value of a franchise.

Once the Pistons start becoming good again, ticket sales will go up. I'm sure of that. How long that takes is a different question though.
