Thanks for the insight!

I like the fact that he plays within his role and doesn't overdo things. That's one part of what I meant when I mentioned his mindset. He could easily do more stupid things in order to present himself as a fourth pick but keeps calm instead and plays smart. I understand anyone who might be a little bit impatient - but as someone on the sidelines I really appreciate the way he played up to this point. With his development comes an extended role, that's a safe bet to me.

I noticed all the talk about Exum before the draft, but I thought with all the praise for Payton it's pretty much a non-issue by now. Let's see how things progress. I'll definitely follow the Magic the next seasons because I really like the talent you guys have.

Both AG and Exum are long term projects imo, I believe the Magic needed a quick contributor as a point guard and someone who plays hard defense which made more sense to get Payton and go for a different pick with the 4th.
AG seems to be the guy that won Hennigan over. Why? He plays hard defense and has athleticism/energy which will help on the offensive end.

I don't expect much from Gordon and Payton but Payton will play a bigger role this season due to his NBA readiness and the fact that Dipo has been injured.
I do believe Payton already to be better pg than Ridnour. He will make rookie mistakes and learn the hard way but that's all good. He's been helping the team, just needs to get better at shooting/finishing and he'll be eating good.

I know it's early, but I'm getting a little worried about Jacque Vaughn's vision for Aaron Gordon's role. Only 21 minutes over the last two games. I'd prefer to see that each game. It would help if he grabbed some rebounds while he's out there!

He's getting in foul trouble WAYYYY too easily... Plus, you're trying to get Frye acclimated after not playing the preseason. So minutes for Aaron may vary...

So your scoring is going to come from Fournier and Vucevic?

Good luck with that...

I am actually fine with this. His minutes will go up but it's too early for him to get large amount of time.
He is long term project imo 2-3yrs away to being a legit starter. He needs to develop a lot to be NBA ready which he will.

I personally am loving watching ELF play. He has such a natural feel for the game. I think his shot will improve over time.
May I see some documentation on that please?

Elf's play speaks for itself. He is our PG now and the future. I wish JV would play AG more, but his minutes will definitely vary due to the fact that he doesn't have a defined role yet. He is an athletic hustle player at the moment who has shown flashes of badassnes. Just tiny little flashes...

On Aaron Gordon's radio show, apparently he said he envisions a bigger role for himself later in the season. If that's true then I don't mind the limited minutes for now. That's all I originally expected this season before he turned it up in preseason.

I am not concerned with Gordon's minutes in the least. Don't matter to me if he only plays 10 mpg for a while as he is very raw and a long term project. I don't expect his impact until late in the season or in years 2 or 3. I am cool with that because he has shown that he will be something special already.

I'll stick up for Elf here. He has a lot more to learn right now with respect to running an offense from the point guard spot than to practice on a 3 point shot.

He will get there . I suspect, especially since he is a starter at the PG spot that he will have all the off season to get that down.

Gordon will be the perfect compliment to Vuc whereas he could defend Vucs guy or whoever is the greatest scoring threat of the 3 4 or 5. This team is so young, inconsistency alone will keep us well outside of the playoffs but this will get us one more, at least, high pick and then we will be set.
My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.

I don't have Insider so I can't link to the original article, but David Thorpe has Payton and Gordon ranked 5th and 6th respectively in this years rookies (so far). Interestingly it seems that, unless there is an error in the OPP article, both are ranked ahead of Andrew Wiggins.
