Well this is deceiving, because

Russell 6'3.25"
Kobe 6'4.75"

1.5 inches is quite a difference.

From the reports it looks like Sacre due to his team defense is positioning himself as the backup C while Black and Upshaw battle it out for 3rd center

I saw that Trudell tweet too. I think it's way too early to say after one real practice, but, I'll bite.

It makes me wonder: what's better? Somewhat better team defense or giving up -9 PER to your own man?

Also looking at their DRtg (both 110) and ORtg and Sacre is a major suck on an offense (100 to Tarik's 121).

He also is a worse rebounder. Blocks at a slightly higher rate, though.

Should be interesting to see how things shake out, but hey if it comes down to Tarik's too small to play backup C full-time, then he's too small. I just see his athleticism as a nice complement to Hibbert's lumbering style. Sacre, not so much.

Sacre usually gets all the brownie points in training camp, but then you see him dropping passes out of bounds in game situations and let him go back to his towel waving duties.

I wouldn't be against Metta at 4 and Bass at 5

Tail can still benefit from some d league time here and there. But yeah I always felt even though both suck in Sacre and Kelly, Sacre is safer. He's the take care of his body and say the right thing type

The whole Metta and Bass thing playing together would mean Randle showed his ass at camp and was ready to start, also a bonus

I think Randle or Nance will fill that athletic big role now if Black is booted out of the team. Can't see them playing small ball C so I think Bass could be the one doing that.

Sacre is painfully inconsistent. Too bad since he has a respectable midrange shot and hook and also a decent shot blocker.

Think about this... If Kobe becomes a catch and shoot who nails a ridiculous percentage and can then move in on fakes and also post he could be so efficient that he has his most efficient year ever. If he scores 20 a game on a ridiculous shooting percentage he'd have something over Michael Jordan. You know he'd be down for that.

I really hope Sacre does not make the cut. The guy practices hard, but when it comes to real games, he's crap.

You gotta tweet Kobe, DD.

But man, if his role becomes exactly like that, he may be the only NBA player who'll retire at the age of 50.

You'll see it as you go through the tweets, but Russell apparently sustained a minor bone bruise in his right foot. Both he and Byron said he should be fine.

Bone bruise is a little concerning, we have a game this Sunday vs Jazz which should be good.

Couple of vintage Kobe plays there, up and under fooling two shot blockers and the turnaround baseline J. Those must almost be like drinking water to him at this point.

I'm liking what I'm reading from this training camp.

Byron is the perfect coach for slow Roy. I thought Byron destroyed our players legs in training camp last year and we looked fatigued in preseason games. This year I think our roster's improved athleticism will help us through the drills and into the preseason games. I see slow Roy and Randle benefiting greatly as the preseason comes to an end.

I'm praying Kobe can make it through this last season without major injury. I keep saying it but I'm happy at least it wasn't a lower body injury last year and Kobe has been able to get his legs right.

I hope D'angelo (and Byron) slow their roll because an injury so early could prove to be a warning sign that D'angelo isn't ready for the rigors of crazy NBA physical demands. I'm not saying coddle him like we did with a 17 year old Bynum, but be extremely smart and avoid another Julius Randle type of injury. Randle said he had a painful "bump" on his leg before he even broke his leg. Just listen to Russell's body if he's having pain to the point of not finishing practice, be cautious.

Clarkson is starting to look like a star; let him usher in the new era which will hopefully features a healthy Kobe that will finally be on the receiving end of great pg assists. Randle and Russell will get there. Lou, Hibbert, Bass, Huertas, Metta, Young, and Kobe is some great veteran presence. I'm highly optimistic coming into the season.
