We start the off-season with the first cut: Nate Allen.

Lofton, Helu and possibly Reece on the bubble?

His contract was about to become guaranteed.

Yup same with Lofton, which is why I expect a move with him as well. Could be wrong tho. He did stay pretty healthy all yr and was in our goaline package after he lost the starting middle linebacker gig. We'll see...

Lofton will at best be re-structured. 5m for a bit player.. Nah.

Allen was JAG. With the Raiders on the upswing, finding a cheaper replacement should pose little problem. My big concern now is Penn: paying him out is risky due to age, but his past 2 years dictate it. And the market for LTs will be really thin.. I wonder if the T from ND will be available at our pick

You're right the LT position is the cloudy position currently. Well be curious how it works out. Would love Stanley! But can we afford to let the FA pass with just Howard, Watson and the young backups on the roster. I don't want to pay Penn more than 7mil and I heard reports that he wants 7.5 haha. The market could be thin depending on what team workout with their FAs and who gets tagged. This is a big off-season for us and this position is a huge part of it.

Maybe better to have retained Veldheer? Hahaha

Penn > Veldheer the past 2 years at half the price.. The Cards passpro this year was amongst the worst in football. Not sure I'd be happy with him around 8m this year on the Raiders, but yeah I guess we wouldnt be questioning the position. I'd be happier with Penn at 5m, question is: does he take it?

Raiders interested in some potential 'splash' FAs this far:

Matt Forte, HB
Malik Jackson, DE (3-4 preference, though it would say a lot about MEJ's neck if we pursued him)
Damon Harrison, NT

I hope we're as active as we're rumored to be

Also, would expect Mychal Rivera to be a cap casualty this offseason. Gabe Holmes could slide into his spot, and due to his draft position he triggered an escalator that makes keeping him about 1.7m next season. With Walford likely to assume the starting role, and Lee Smith entrenched as blocking TE (if he's not cut himself, though I doubt that), keeping a 3rd string TE making 1.7m while we invested a PS spot on a UDFA in '15 seems unlikely.

Unbelievably, the Raiders made no move which guaranteed 3.5 of Lofton's 5.5m for next season. Yikes. Well, I guess we can afford to keep sub package expensive players, but as you pointed out, by year's end he was essentially only in one package, though he did get in on early downs to give Ball and Heeney breathers. Still.. I'd better not hear anything about X player being too expensive when we're keeping this guy.

One of my fave podcasts + rotoworld are connecting the soon to be released Rahim Moore (FS) to Oakland, citing is best seasons under Del Rio.

I'd prefer to pursue his teammate, Brandon Brooks (RG), who projects to be a run game anchor. Usually spending 6m on a RG is a luxury, but we sure have the space and need.

Every outlet is reporting us looking for RB help too, and since we have the most space, we're tied to biggest names: Doug Martin, Lamar Miller, Matt Forte, Chris Ivory, and DeMarco Murray should he become available

It gives me goose bumps.
Some solid names there so I hope we end up with some upgrades for sure and overall more depth.

Penn removed all references to Raiders in his social media. Will we have to get a new LT? :/

D-Line was such an area of strength last season, but now Tuck has retired, Aldon Smith is unsigned and suspended, and MEJ has a potentially career-ending injury. Yikes, how are the O- and D-lines gonna be solidified? The trenches are where its at.

Donald Penn says he's been like HBO at a promotional price - now it's time for the Raiders to pay full price for the shows they love
12:41 PM - 5 Feb 2016

He seems like he's one of those, "all my career I had to fight" kinda guys and finally wants the respect in the form of a big pay day.
Well, there's better LTs out there for the "full price" and then there's the draft.

From the looks of it, it seems Andrew and Farhan have the team's financial ducks in a row and we're waiting for contracts to expire or come off the books.

thought we were more like $250 million+ this year.

That's nice but it doesn't really address his neck and spinal cord though, huh?

BTW I'm not saying he's done - I'm saying there's a question that he might be done.

On a lighter note, today at 1pm is the deadline for teams to franchise players. Will be interesting to watch what the Chiefs do - they have I think it's around $30 mil in cap space, but a lot of free agents to juggle. Reggie is probably targeting them again - specifically, their defense.
