Chiefs looking like they will tender Eric Berry.

The decision essentially means the Chiefs will retain at least one key defensive stalwart, though it also means a number of other key defensive players will become free agents on March 9, barring a new contract agreement. The list of potential departures include two team icons — outside linebacker Tamba Hali and inside linebacker Derrick Johnson — and three underrated starters in cornerback Sean Smith, defensive tackle Jaye Howard and offensive guard Jeff Allen.

Other Chiefs slated to become free agents include quarterback Chase Daniel, safety Tyvon Branch, defensive end Mike DeVito, safety Husain Abdullah, receiver Jason Avant, offensive tackle Donald Stephenson, outside linebacker Frank Zombo, cornerback Jamell Fleming and outside linebacker Dezman Moses.

They've been mum on the details of his injury, so any skepticism is fair but I'll take the participation in physical activity as a positive. I'll be thankful for some real clarity when it comes as well.

Good on the Chiefs tagging Berry.
Sean Smith is gonna have the best value of any FA on the market. Very good to elite corner. Not a big name that's gonna command 15 mill like a Norman.
Him or one of the Chiefs corners.

From what I gather MEJ seems to have a (perhaps congenital) defect in his vertebrae in the neck area, discovered when he hurt his neck last season. He was held out so many games as a precaution - I'm assuming team doctors worry that the defect makes it more likely that he could suffer a very serious neck injury (like paralysis). IDK that this is anything that could be addressed by surgery - I gather at some point MEJ, doctors, team, and crew will need to have an understanding of the risk of potentially devastating injury that they are comfortable assuming.

That he is working out at least shows he is not assuming he's retiring.

Two less 'splashy' names I hear we like: Rodney McLeod and Nolan Carroll.

What we do RE:DEs in FA will tell us a lot about MEJs prognosis.. I think we bargain hunt this year and see how he responds. I'm now expecting a splash in our secondary more than anything, especially at SS

Fantastic news but let's hope it ends up happening.

That would be ideal

VicTafur also reporting that we have serious interest in Sean Smith, but that we likely dont in Danny Trevathian

Not sure if speculation or actual reporting, but Chris Hansen says re: Raiders, here are some names to watch: DE Derrick Shelby, CB Sean Smith, LT Russell Okung, SS Reggie Nelson

Seems like dot-connecting though

If Raiders sign Malik Jackson, what does that say about Mario Edwards Jr. (and Aldon Smith)?

Says nothing about Aldon, we cant leave a gaping hole at DE and assume he'll be ready to jump in. And re:MEJ, I think they are playing it safe, we cant assume his good health either

But came here to post: DeMarco Murray to the Titans, I think for a 3rd rd pick. So no Murray/Murray

Per Rand Getlin, Raiders agree in principle to sign Kelechi Osemele. Terms not available, could be LT or RG

Glad we have Kelechi.

Wouldn't want $11 mill+ going to RG, so I hope he plays LT for us. Either way, given that we have to spend a lot to hit the salary cap floor and Mack is 2 years away (??) from being re-upped, I'm good with it.

Looks like we're in on the muscle hamster too. Hopefully the out lay here isn't too crazy.

Sean Smith or Eric Weddle please. Please Please Please.

NFL Network says a max value of $60 million over 5 years for Kelechi.

If this happens, I'd have Reggie at an A+ in FA thus far in FA.

He could stop there and probably get a B for the whole period.
But there's safeties on the market that i don't think we can pass up given our lack of depth/talent at the position.

Ironically I was just writing a post about SOP is that teams usually let their big signings marinate for a day or two before announcing the next one.. guess Reggie had other ideas! Irvin addresses our need for a SAM pass-rusher, since Mack is now essentially a full-time DE.

Now that we've addressed the edge and our OL, we have 3 other main positional concerns: ILB, CB, S. I would also say that RB and OT represent smaller concerns too. But so far, I'm extremely impressed with the quality names we've brought in.

A couple more names off this wish list, and Reggie has knocked it out of the park: Sean Smith, Janoris Jenkins, Casey Hayward, Eric Weddle, Jerrell Freeman, Derrick Johnson, Donald Penn, Russell Okung, Derrick Shelby, Tamir Whitehead, Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell

Adam Caplan may have just let it slip that Janoris Jenkins is ready to become a Raider too..

I know the front office was hesitant (don't blame them) but Ken Norton pushed hard for Irvin. Interested to see the $

Interesting

I'd rather Smith over Janoris but Janoris would be a step up as well.
