Falcons Free Agency Thread

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Wed Mar 9, 2016 3:53 pm

Wishlist at this point:

Alex Mack (Falcons called leading candidates, with Cleveland maybe making a late push).
Danny Trevathan (Between Atlanta and Chicago).
Olivier Vernon (Atlanta and many others linked).

Not saying we're gonna sign all of them, but we need to sign some mixture of these three.

Irvin is out (went for too much money anyway)
Iloka gave the Bengals a generous hometown discount (only $6 mil per)
Lions overpaid for Marvin Jones
Travis Benjamin signed with SD.

^ Those were all players Atlanta was linked with.

Falcons Free Agency Thread

Post#2 » by ATL Boy » Wed Mar 9, 2016 8:07 pm

The Mack truck is driving Atlanta's O-Line this season!!!

Falcons sign Alex Mack to a 5 year deal at $9.5 mil per year (less than what I thought he would go for). He took less to get away from Cleveland and to play for Kyle Shanahan. First two years and a lot of the third year is guaranteed.

Our O-Line just went from being a liability to being an asset.

You mentioned many of the players that we're linked too already.
The Lions overpaid for sure but my interest was there, just not for the money.

So, Alex Mack is a nice addition, but coming to play for Kyle Shanahan may tell us Atlanta fans something, and that Kyle could possibly be the guy we need. I won't be negative but I continue to have some concerns about Shanahan. Our O-Line is looking very solid, so our run game should thrive, and Matt Ryan should have a much improved season (right?).

From the Atlanta Falcons page on facebook: Free agent WR Mohamed Sanu will visit the Falcons on Thursday and Dan Quinn says he likes him as a fit in the offense

I never thought I would see this name return to the Falcons.

I wouldn't mind Sanu, but I do not want him for anywhere close to the $7 mil annually that's being reported. This is a guy that didn't even catch a TD last year (less than 400 yards, too).

Chris Long is supposedly a target.
I'd like to see us sign him.

Hate the Sanu deal, wouldn't have minded him at around $4 mil per year, but not $6.5 mil.

Caught 0 TDs last year, had less than 400 receiving yards. Two years ago when he was thrust into a larger role he led the league in drops.

^
It makes no sense for sure considering what other good talents are getting during free agency.
I would have preferred us to spend the money on making our defense more solid.

Reports that Chris Long's visit with the team went well. He seems like damaged goods after his very down year due to injuries, but if he's healthy and can even come back at 80% of what he once was, he'd be a wonderful starter opposite Beasley in the 4-3.

I suspect this guy might be a Free Agent target in 2019. I remember the year he was drafted, there were links to him and Coach.

Dante Fowler Motivated By Declined Option

The Jacksonville Jaguars declined Dante Fowler's fifth-year option, which has motivated the defensive end.

Fowler, the third-overall pick in 2015, had a career-high eight sacks in 2017.

If the Jaguars had picked up his option, Fowler would have earned a base salary of $14.2 million. Instead, he enters the final year of his rookie contract on a base salary of $3.6 million.

"I know how good of a player I am," he said. "I know I'm one of the best players in this league. When I go out there, I'm going to make the best of my opportunities every time. I'm working hard to have the best season of my career."
