2020 Projected Lineup

Post#1 » by Ruzious » Tue Feb 16, 2016 2:23 pm

With the Braves going all-in on the 2016 international scene, I thought it would be fun to project out to the future their lineup if they get their 3 top targets. Given their ages, maybe 2021 is more "realistic". Here we go:

1B Freddie Freeman (the only veteran)
2B Danby Swanson
3B Kevin Maitan
SS Ozhaino Albies
C Abraham Gutierrez
LF Lazarito Armenteros
CF Mallex Smith
RF Braxton Davidson
DH Austin Riley

Feel free to make updates and project the pitching staff. The way this organization makes trades and with the 3rd pick in the 2016 regular draft, there might be more names to add.

( Not the batting lineup), no DH, F that no DH in NL. They better not change it.

1b Freeman
2b Albies
SS Swanson
3b Maitan
LF Davidson
CF Smith
RF Inciarte

Nice to see 2 players on the projected lineup tear it up yesterday against the O's. Anything is possible in Spring, but those 2 guys combining for 2 homers, 2 triples, 1 double, and 2 singles in 1 game probably will never happen again.

2020 is still a few years away, what do you think next year's lineup will look like?

Mine,

RF Markakis
CF Inciarte
1b Freeman
LF Kemp
C McCann
3b Prado
2b Peterson
SS Swanson

If the Braves can't move Markakis this winter, I think he starts in RF until the trade deadline(hopefully move him then). With Smith being the 4th OF, Incarite moves to RF after Markakis is moved and Smith to CF.
I could see the Braves having a nostalgia offseason, by trading for McCann and signing Prado in FA. I don't think the Braves stay with Garcia at 3b, and they need someone to fill in until Ruiz/Riley/Maitan are ready.

You don't think the Nats will hang on to Ramos?

I live in the DC area, and the local sports radio guys say there have been no negotiations. I think the Nats GM Rizzo is just as surprised as everyone else that Ramos has done so well. Dusty Baker has made several comments about the organization needing to keep him - which sound like he's trying to convince Rizzo. I can't get a good feel on whether or not the Nats are willing to ante up, but I don't think their Plan B is on the roster.

It's looking less likely the Nats hold onto Ramos. The Washington Post writer who covers the team said they gave him an offer of just over 30 mil for 3 years. Considering the qualifying offer to keep him will likely be over 16 mil, that offer could be called an insult. Granted, Ramos' stats have been declining, and he's been limping the last couple of games I watched him play.

And now he is out with a torn ACL. I'd bring back McCann any day. If we had a shot at him, I'd go after Lucroy, but I don't think we do.

Yeah, Lucroy, McCann, Alex Avila, and Ramos (depending on when he'll be ready to play) are all free agent catchers I'd be okay with. I'd also consider Jason Castro and Matt Weiters. Not Nick Hundley. Saltalamacchia is a guy who I thought was going to be a great offensive catcher when he was in the Braves system, but he never really made it.

But Tyler Flowers is showing that he deserves some consideration - boosting his OPS to .787 - a year after OPSing just .652.

A look at our potential rotation in year 2020 or 2021 and beyond,

Allard
Anderson
Soroka
Fried
Wentz/Muller ( I think one of these two will be a starter and the other in the pen)
