How good will Kris Dunn be?

Post#1 » by Clevelander » Wed Sep 21, 2016 11:08 pm

Assuming coach Thibs develops him properly and he eventually takes over the starting PG reigns, how good do you guys think he can be? What kind of stats do you guys predict in his prime and what current player would you compare him to?

Is poor man's Rus too much? Obviously he doesn't have that kind of explosion.. poor man's bledsoe is probably closer. He'll be a bulldog defender who, if he learns and works within the team concept, could be better than his raw stats. As far as stats, in prime I think he can be a 18/5/8/2 steals guy who's the 3rd option on a contender... if things go right, there are injury questions and such but I'm pretty high on the kid I guess.

He reminds me more of Conley than Russ. Still a high level athlete, but it's his shiftiness/craftiness with the ball that really makes him excel. Will be a much better defender than Bledsoe.

1st year = Meh. Somewhat of a disappointment.

2nd year = Nice surprise, but not quite what his fans hope for.

3rd year = Breakout player who helps Minny break into 2nd round.

Im imagining somewhere between emmanuel mudiay and prime derrick rose.

From what he did in college, he seems like hes a "flashy point guard" type of player, who can play scrappy defense.

I think he surpasses Rubio by this time next year

largely depends on his shooting. defense? not so much.

They didn't draft him to be a back up that is for sure. I imagine they would love to trade Rubio for a wing shooter but every team has a PG. The position is so deep. Wings are tougher to come by obviously. Rubio is a hard for me to judge as a player but a team like the Kings or Pelicans could use him. Rubio/Muhammand for Holiday/Pondexter?

So either God awful or MVP caliber? Way to go out on a limb there with the prediction

Lol by "prime Derrick Rose", i meant pre-injury D Rose. I was thinking more stylistically, in that Dunn has a flare in his game that i see in the other 2 guys.

And dont sleep on Mudiay! He was a rookie thrown into the starting lineup on a trash team; he's solid though.13ppg 5 apg isnt bad for a rookie

If you've watched him, His closest league comparison is John Wall, with a bit of D-Wade sprinkled in. I think he reminds people of Russ because of his motor. He has that rare rabid dog mentality.

Before Mudiay was drafted, his NBA comparison was John Wall as well. I said Mudiay instead bc i see him as a less-polished version of John Wall, which is what i expect from Dunn as a rookie

Poor man's John Wall was always my comparison. Eerily similar games. Obviously Wall's on another athletic level and probably a better distributor, but the slashing, dogged defense, etc, are all pretty similar.

How much improvement do people think he will make? It's not like he's a raw 19 year old kid with one year of college under his belt. He's already 22. I think he will only make minor improvements to his game and he better do it quickly because his prime years (23-27) are almost already here.

I see him as a poor man's Dwyane Wade (and that's not anything bad). In some aspect better, like 3pt shooting... but overall not as good (nothing bad again, it's not easy to be better than Wade).

In his prime he can be 18-24pts, 3.5-5 reb, 6-9as, 1.8-2.4stl guy (depends on role and teammates). With All-Nba defence. He will probably have trouble with efficiency and to's as a rookie, but I expect to be a plus defender from a day one, and he will probably make problems for backup guards as well. So I hope he contributes early and eventually takeover PG spot in the future. I don't want to see Rubio traded just yet... he is very underrated player, and makes the team better, and why not have 2 good point guards especially since Dunn is still a rookie, unproven, and on rookie scale contract.
