The thing that doesn't show in the rankings is the walk on program. We usually get 1 or 2 key contributors per class.

Hey, son. I know you live in Ohio, have been an OSU fan all your life, have an offer from OSU, are being recruited by coaching legend Urban Meyer, your parents will be able to drive 45 minutes to all of your home games...

...but you'll get to play against Ohio State if you come to Wisconsin!

Does this do a pretty good job of describing to you why most of the guys we get from Ohio are the ~15th best guy in the state based on the recruiting site rankings? Then go on down the line and insert great football state's name in for Ohio and say that same previous sentence.

Two of the top ten recruits in Ohio went to Kentucky. One went to Cinci. #11 and #12 went to Louisville and Kentucky.

OSU can only take so many of them.

Are you familiar with how close Louisville and Lexington are to most of Ohio?

Finally, the Badgers DO OFFER the guys that are the leftovers from Ohio State. They routinely get them. I pointed out the Mags that we got a high 3-star safety that was a guy left over from the top level Michigan schools in Michigan.

We've had several WRs that we're OSU leftovers. Wheelwright, Jefferson, Chambers, and we have a **** 4 star guy THIS YEAR in Danny Davis. It's actually hard to go back through the results to not find a year where we didn't take 1 or usually 2 guys from Ohio that missed the OSU cut. Deiter is from Ohio. In 2011 we took 5 guys from Ohio.

Caputo was a PSU leftover.

In basketball, Trice (offered late), Hayes, Vitto, Iverson, Jackson have all been the OSU rejects. We do this a lot.

Basically, every major state school gets the top 10 guys from their state and then work from there. Unfortunately, our top 10 is never as good as the larger population states.

With UM and OSU recruiting nationally, I think there is actually an increased chance to start moving up the ladder in Ohio. If we're better than MSU, we can get some great talent out of that state. Rudy is just the guy to do it.

I'm hoping we bring Partridge back for the open D assistant position just for the south Florida connections.

Yeah, we can improve a bit, I'm just trying to explain why we are at a major disadvantage and that just trying to go out and win major recruiting battles can backfire.

****, I'm stoked for this year's class. There's exciting skill position talent. Danny Davis was a great get. Taylor and Coan. Lyles, Van Ginkle, Beach in the trenches. And of that group, 2 of the 6 are Wisconsin guys - and Lyles spent about 5 years out of state before moving back last year. They're trying, and it's not easy for a number of reasons already mentioned by Kerb and others. I feel like this is one of the best classes we've had in some time.

Yeah, I get that the league is more of a passing league now, and I've been wrong about Ogunbawale a lot, but that will be the interesting one. Clement has the NFL body but never truly put it together. Dare does not but is a very good receiving back. That said, I think Dare looked too easy to take down in college sometimes and I think that will not translate well into the NFL. Clement also had this issue but he's a big back and there is something to work with.

Clement had the privilege of mop up duty behind some good back. Could never be relied upon as the guy. Just not overly fast or powerful. Not an NFL player.

He might not make it in the NFL but it won't be for a lack of being drafted. He had a big week at the Senior Bowl. I've seen him mocked in the 2nd round.

Bob Bostad is back to coach LB. Hopefully, he'll have something to say about the OL as well. Great to have him back.

I wouldn't take Watt Round one. But I'd consider him at round 2 or 3.

He's not going to make it to the 3rd round and you'll likely have to trade up in the 2nd round to get him there.

Committed QB Ben Bryant says he got his scholarship pulled because he tweeted about a new offer from Georgia.

I totally get the "mutual closed recruitment on both sides" idea but Chryst is going to come off as a dick nationally no matter what here.

Bryant's side of the story in more detail. Sure, it's only one side, but it certainly doesn't paint UW in a good light at all.

I don't really understand this entire situation to be honest. Surely there have been dozens and dozens of committed recruits that are offered by others schools white technically being committed to UW? There just has to be more to the story.
