We still have needs at:

Backup QB
Backup RB
Starting WR
Starting OT
Starting DE
Backup OLB
Starting CB
K

Not including Glennon, Shaw, Sims, Wheaton, Randle and Demps we have $62M in cap space. Glennon 14.5, Sims 6, Demps 4.5 and the rest are minimal or unknown. Let's say we have $30M left

Possible cuts:
Houston saves 5
Massie saves 5
Royal saves 5
Porter saves 3.5
Whether or not they're cut depends on if we find replacements

QB

I think we went with Glennon because he was the cheapest and least risky of anyone who's at least decent, but without a doubt has more potential than Hoyer.

Romo, old and wouldn't come here. Cutler was a headache. Hoyer was in the building and they chose Glennon over him, that says something. Kaepernick, Foles, RGIII, Smith have all been steadily declining. Fitzpatrick is 34 and can't stay consistent. Multiple draft picks including a first is too much for Garoppolo. And nobody in the draft is worth taking in the first round.

I think Glennon was the right guy, all things considered. The Buccaneers said they wanted to make him the highest paid backup to keep him. Chase Daniel is making $8M and RGIII was going to make almost 9. The bidding probably started around 11 to make him a starter.

As for a backup, we could've retained Barkley. They probably decided he doesn't have enough upside. Along with Shaw we could add Foles or draft a QB in round 2 or 3. Trubisky, Watson, Kizer would all be decent pickups with our 35th pick, but taking Webb or Peterman in 3 or 4 could be an option as well

RB

We have a top 10 running back. Langford hasn't proven much imo. Carey isn't worth keeping imo.

Could take someone in the draft. But we have a bunch of young players so I prefer a veteran.

Rex Burkhead, Andre Ellington and Christine Michael would all be solid additions. They'd push Langford for the backup role.

WR

As our roster stands, White is #1, Meredith is 2, Wheaton is slot, Royal is 4 and Braverman is 5. (Did we retain Bellamy?)

That's decent but I'd be much more comfortable if we cut Royal, signed a veteran 1 or 2, and slide Meredith to 4.

1/2 White/vet FA
Slot Wheaton
4 Meredith (plays all three spots well and is good on special teams. Perfect role)
5 Braverman
6 Bellamy

Terrelle Pryor would be our 1. Taller, more athletic, and somehow put up better numbers with the same catch percentage (catches/targets) as Alshon in his very first year as a WR. Anquan Boldin would be a great 2 for us. Apparently we offered Alshon 13/yr.

If we can't get one of them then I'd still cut Royal and add Justin Hunter, Kendall Marshall, Kamar Aiken to be fourth receiver and just keep Meredith in the 2 spot. I think adding a veteran will be key since everyone is so young at the position for us.

I'd also rather have Cordarelle Patterson over Bellamy.

OT

If we could've added a LT like Reiff that would allow Leno to play RT and both spots would be improved. Kelvin Beachum would be good. He's had an ACL tear almost two years ago. Played better as the season went on. I think he's better than Reiff and can be signed for cheaper.

Other than that there are only Backups available. I'd rather draft a guy than sign the Backups since we have so many veterans that young guys could learn from. Somewhere at the end of the draft.

DE

Jonathan Hankins (25years old) and Dontari Poe (27) could play DE or NT and for us and we would have the best front 3 in the NFL. All 330+, all dominant against the run, and all able to contribute 6+sacks.

I think we will try to make this our identity. If we don't get one of them I think round 1 or 2 will be a defensive lineman

OLB

Floyd, McPhee, Young, Houston. Good rotation, but there is some injury history there especially with Houston.

Barwin, Sheard, Jones, Peppers, Ware, Freeney, Mathis, Long, Ninkovich. Just to name a few of the guys still available. Signing one could make Houston expendable since we also have that guy from utep (Roy Harrison or something)

Picking one in the 4-6 round range wouldn't be bad either

CB

Fuller could be a 1. Hopefully he can stay away from injuries from now on. Porter could be a solid 2, but he's getting old, is often injured, top guys run right by him, and he's the worst tackler I've very seen. He can't play slot because he's a terrible tackler. So if he's too slow to play 2 he needs to be cut.

Free agents: Amukamara and Claiborne would be excellent signings.

Draft: could take Lattimore at 3. Otherwise there would be plenty of good options in round 2.

New guy
Fuller
Callahan
Hall
LeBlanc
Glenn/McManis

Solid but we need to get a 1 or 2. Just like we need to get a 1 or 2 receiver.

Houston is likely getting cut. It saves money and they like Roy Robertson-Harris who is a more natural 3-4 fit.
Royal's already been cut just needs to pass a physical

Also need a younger TE as Miller can't stay healthy.
Need Safeties as well. All we have is a bunch of depth types.

Out of the needs at QB, WR, OT, DE and CB we need to address three in free agency so we can fill the other two with quality players in round 1 and 2.

Ideal

Free Agency
RB Ellington/Michael (2 or 3 mil)
WR Pryor (10-13/yr)
WR/KR Patterson (3-5)
OT Beachum (6-8/yr)
CB Amukamara/Claiborne (8-10)

Draft
Jonathan Allen
Top QB
Pass rusher
OT

I'd also be perfectly fine with signing Poe or Hankins and drafting Marshon Lattimore but I think that's less likely. Those DEs will demand more than Amukamara and Claiborne. Plus Allen is better than Lattimore.

I didn't know Royal was cut. Thanks for the update.

We signed Sims to 3 years $18mil so I think we're set at TE. Miller, Sims, Davis, Braunecker.

I think we're set at safety unless someone really good falls to us in round 3. Demps is being paid starter money. Amos is solid and young. We drafted two safeties last year, one of whom took a starting spot at the end of he year. I think Demps and Amos is a slightly above average tandem. And Amos has upside because of his athleticism. He a great tackler.

Mabe the Bears have decided to keep Massie then.

I think the Bears have established their method of doing business. It will be going el cheapo route. I think they are pretty much done getting guys in FA and will look to the draft and waiver pool to fill out roster.

Edit: and I as I write this they signed Prince Amukamara

He signed the best qb on the market, with the most upside. You all complain about it. We need starters at 5 positions and 5 or 6 more key contributors going into free agency. He doesn't (over)spend 15 million on everyone and you all complain about it.

Unfortunately I don't see us adding a starting WR or OT, but I hope we do

I like all of the signings so far. Keeping my fingers crossed for Pryor however it sounds like he wants big money so I question if Pace is willing to deal.

Yes, according to Bears' website.
