2017 Games Thread -- The future is now

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Mon Apr 3, 2017 12:44 pm

Opening Day foes Mets, Braves have high expectations

Right-hander Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to take the mound for the Mets, who are trying to reach the postseason for a franchise-record third straight season.

Right-hander Julio Teheran, who has a 7-3 career record with a 2.36 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) against the Mets, is scheduled to pitch for the Braves, who are also hoping to parlay some late-season success into a good start in 2017.

"Our goal is going to be to win the division, and I don't see why it should be anything other than that," Snitker said.

So the Blue Jays were really stupid enough to trade Syndegaard and d'Arnaud for a 40-year old Dickey huh?

As expected, it's a pitchers duel. No score in the 4th. Freeman had a 1 out triple in the 4th, Syndegaard struck out the next two batters, Kemp and Markakis.

Ugg, this game emphasizes the importance of having a 7th inning reliever. If Cabrera was healthy, he or Vizcaino would have pitched the 7th instead of the depth guys going in and getting hammered. Then again, it doesn't help when the offense doesn't score.

Get rid of Roe, Krol and EOF. Put David Hernandez in the pen, and sign another bp arm.

So much frustration. Adonis Garcia didn't know how to start a double play in that 7th, had he made a better throw to Phillips then we would've eventually gotten out of that inning with no harm.

Matt Kemp had two situations with less than 2 outs and a runner on third and he struck out twice (on some pitches in the dirt).

Also, what the heck was Tyler Flowers doing on that beautiful throw from Ender at home plate in the 7th? Why are you 4 feet behind the plate?!

O'Flaherity sucks, don't know why we keep giving him chances.

Maybe the Braves should trade for Longoria, like ESPN's Dave Schoenfiled suggests, and I mentioned in the off-season thread.

It was a good pitchers duel and scoreless game, until we had to go to the bullpen. But yes, bats need to show up.

No score in the 5th, another pitching duel. Both pitchers have allowed 1 hit each thru 4 IP.

After leaving the bases loaded (with one out at one point nonetheless) in the 7th and not taking advantage of the runners on the corners and one out in the 9th it's a relief that we were able to pull it out in the end.

Credit to every pitcher who made an appearance last night. Colon was brilliant, and the HR he gave up wasn't even on a bad pitch (low breaker that wasn't near the strike zone). Ian Krol looked good, Jose Ramirez and Jim Johnson were brilliant with two innings of work each.

Matt Kemp had 3 doubles and drove in the game winners with the last one.

I have been MIA since I had to deal with Wrestlemania in Orlando.

Great win last night in extra innings. I was able to watch after the 9th inning but followed the box score before.

Harvey looks for a fresh beginning so I expect him to be tough today.
