Well, our stretch of run production has to come to a lull...right? Is this the classic Brewer letdown? Will our rotation defy the odds? Will our pitching continue to be as unpredictable as the weather?

It looks like we've found our new closer.

This season has absolutely catalyzed me to become exceedingly familiar w/ our minor league system. LOTS to be excited about, boys. LOTS.

What is Knebel's contract status? He looks great out there, but wondering if he stays hot for a while, is he guy you move in another Thornburg/Will Smith type deal?

Knebel has 4 years of arbitration after this. If the right offer comes along I'd take it, but he probably won't be moved for another year or 2...and by then hopefully he is essential to a competitive team.

This org has been great for many years finding closer talent. So as much as I have loved some of the guys, it just seems like there is too much trade value not to keep trading them.

Not suggesting we do that now or anything, but I like the develop and trade closer path more than paying big money for a guy to do it.

It's a shame for Peralta's numbers that he didn't get a draw in this series. This should be a bounceback series for Nelson and Peralta, who can't get lefties out since the Padres basically don't have any except for Solarte, who is slightly better from his left-handed side, and Schimpf.

The Padres have worse splits against LHP so far this year, but I think that has more to do with the fact that the lefties they've faced have been Kershaw a few times, Bumgarner, etc.

Knebel definitely seems like a guy they're going to hold onto for a period of time - given the arb eligible years and the fact he is really only now coming into his own and it's very early in that process. And, the early results this year are fantastic. His K rate is among the League Leaders and he is consistently locating his 98-99 mph fastball.

The guy I coninute to root for a turnaround is Barnes. He started out this season blazing hot. And, even last year, he showed short stretches of dominance. I really hope he can turn it around and get on another mini run. Knebel scuffled long his first while as well w/ inconsistency and location.

Good points. Nelson has come on his last 3 starts whereas WIly is trending (as he is prone to doing) in the other direction.

I have said ot for years now. Peralta would play up in a back end bullpen role. The fact were still trying to make him a starter is beyond me.

100% agree. Now it would kill two birds with one stone as they need a spot for guerra and could use help in the pen.

I think they gave him the starter spot in hopes he would pitch well and get traded.

Seems to me you want to give a guy with his stuff every chance to be a starter, just more valuable. And I had thought he was pretty good at the end of the season last year, but might be mistaken

I've been on the Peralta to bullpen train for a while now as well. Was discussed in another thread recently. I wonder if Peralta initially resisted it...but at this point the guy's career may be on life support so maybe it is time.

That has to be it. He has had way too many chances to stay in the rotation and has to be odd man out this time. Guerra comes back Scahill DFA Wily to pen.

Yeah at this point it appears to be a no brainer. He could excel in a relief role, fill multiple functions and still be the stretch guy who could spot start if need be.
