History of the top pick is very few non-injury busts amongst players who played college ball. There's Anthony Bennett but he was an out of left field pick in a historically weak Lottery (no All-Stars or even near All-Stars yet) - Michael Olowokandi was the last bust who met those criteria back in 1998.

Michael Beasley says hello.

Was there a different draft that took place where Beasley went first?

Yes, my bad. Rose was #1 that year. But history means nothing. What happened in prior years has no causal relationship with what will happen with the players picked this year The events are independent.

Compeltley agree. That said, they went #1 for a reason and most teams in that position have benefited greatly. Even if the #1 pick was not the best player from the draft in hindsight

Russell college stats: 15/3.5/5 on 45/35/78
Fultz college stats: 23/6/6 on 50/41/65

Russell's hype was almost entirely based on his play-type and his potential based on it. Fultz has the same 'potential' appeal while also proving to be very productive as is. Fultz had a much better collegiate career than Russell did; there's really no comparison between them.

Those aren't Russell's college stats. lol

He put up 19.3/5.7/5 on 45/41/76

Also Fultz shot 47.6 FG% not 50.

lol, ya i just noticed. I was looking at his LAL stats for some reason. NVM then, Markelle still had a better collegiate career though the gap wasnt as big as i thought

Markelle is a more athletic and taller version of Russell.

That's terrible.

That list is trash. Includes other teams' picks who never belonged to Boston.

And notice only 2 picks in the lottery: Smart, who was in a weak draft; and Brown, who we like very much, thank you.

But thanks for your concern.

15.6ppg 4.8apg 3.6rpg in 28.7 mpg = 20/6/4.4 in 36 mpg in his age 20 season. Not sure where all this hate for Russell comes from. Players naturally start off with bad TS% their first few years in the league and end up getting better over the next five years. So yeah a better version of Russell even slightly better would make for a great player in this league.

History does mean something. It has shown that the player thought to be the best player in a draft is normally an all star caliber player.

laika wrote:I think that this could potentially be a decent to spectacular trade for the 76ers.

-The 76ers desperately need shooting and a PG.
-They absolutely don't need Jackson since he is too similar to Covington.
-The Simmons as PG experiment is likely to fail. If the 76ers couldn't get a top PG with the Laker pick then they could be screwed.
-Fultz has far more potential to be a superstar than Jackson.

So how much should the 76ers offer for this huge upgrade?
3rd plus 2018 76er 1st- An absolute steal. 76ers are unlikely to be in the lottery.
3rd plus 2018 Laker 1st- A very solid deal. Yes, the Lakers are likely to be bad. But a 3rd and a 5th with limited value vs a player who is perfect for your team is an obvious choice.
3rd plus 2018 Laker 1st plus 2018 76er 1st- You still have to do this. Mid 1st round picks just aren't worth very much.

The 76ers shouldn't even hesitate to trade unless Boston starts asking for all three top 1st round picks.

Needless to say, I'm giving this trade an "A" for Philadelphia.

In theory Boston picked up some decent value. But you can only play 5 players. You win titles with your top 3-5 players, not 12. I don't see how this moves Boston closer to contending unless they get a lucky pick and/or consolidate their assets.

Got a bad feeling about Markelle Fultz.

The Sixers have been picking from the top of the lotto for several years while the Celtics have had basically one lotto pick in Marcus Smart. Their circumstances are quiet different.

Not so long ago, Boston to pick Fultz - "he's gonna be a beast, such a good player"

Now 76ers pick Fultz - "meh, he's just D'Angelo Russell"

LOL

Still adjusting to NBA 3-pt line. He can get to the rack, but is average from downtown. Like to see a killer instinct in his workouts, but he's more reserved.
