Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy

All have offered deals for Rudy but all were rejected by Cho & Co.
Rudy, apparently, is getting extremely impatient but clearly nobody, Rudy or his agent, will force Cho's hand on any deals.

Good for Cho. If he cant get something for him that will clearly be an asset to the team moving forward, then let him rot on the bench. Who cares if Spanish players shy away from Portland moving forward. Im pretty sure Batum is doing just fine in Portland. It wont scare away all Euro player. Just prima donnas

What this tells me is each of those teams merely offered a future first. And, frankly, if I am Paul Allen, who can buy a late first round pick at a whim, I would rather see Rudy go back to Europe. That is what this is telling me. Clearly these teams offered crap and Portland is not biting. Fine by me. Would rather see the kid in Europe.

Exactly what I've been saying for months now. I'd rather him go back to Europe than see us give him away for essentially nothing to another NBA team.

Re: Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy
We don't know what has been offered, if anything. Only one person is talking so everything is one-sided. This is a business and only one person is professional among the group being discussed and it sure isn't Rudy.

Nothing wrong with just waiting on trading him. Its not like his trade value can go any lower. Best case scenario is that someone somehow gets desperate for him and offers a good return.

Re: Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy
He wants to go back to Europe and doesn't wanna wait 2 more years. The only way he makes it happen sooner is if he makes NBA teams not want him. It sounds like it's working.

Re: Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy
Cho on the game right now
*Disappointed, but won't get into a war of words. End of day, will come down to what's best for PDX.
*Not going to make a trade just to make a trade. Will do it if it makes the team better or gets an asset that can be used later.
*It's Miller's prerogative to say whatever.
*If Rudy doesn't come to training camp he's subject to suspension and fines. That's what we'll do.
*Going to continue to look for ways to trade him. Again, has to be a trade that makes sense for Portland.
*Not sure if Rudy and Miller are going to come around if he finds a deal with a team like Chicago or NY or Boston. Not going to make a bad deal just to deal with those teams.
*Spoken with Andy quite a bit since being hired. Aware of Rudy's feelings. At the end of the day will do what's best for Portland. Will talk to the other teams again, but not going to do anything just to do it.
*Unfortunate that he's made these statements, but doesn't help his cause. Doesn't feel a sense of urgency anymore than he did last week. Will do what's best for the organization. Will not be strong armed into anything.
*There's a number of rules related to suspensions. Will address it when the time comes, but doesn't want to get into conjecture right now.
*Rudy is a very good player. Plays 23-24 mpg for us. Over his first two seasons has averaged 24 minutes a game. Not like he hasn't been given a chance. Beasley got 28 mpg, Love 26 for his first two seasons. He's played quite a bit, has been given a chance. Still a good player, would like him to be a Trail Blazer. Andy and Rudy have expressed frustration. Willing to make a deal, but has to be right.
*I'm hoping to come up with a solution, but doesn't know what it is exactly.

Paralysis by over-analysis?
Not going to be bullied?
Nate sucks?
Rudy sucks?
Andy Miller sucks?
The cookie you're offering sucks?
Give to me cookie!

Quick just said that Cho wont release Rudy.
Meaning he wont let Rudy go play overseas.

No, the true theme is KP 2.0. Not that I am complaining when it comes to Rudy, if all the offers are garbage, I am good with making him suffer.

Re: Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy
I think Cho is smart to say no.
Lets look at the offers as we have heard them in the past. Nobody knows exact specifics.
Bulls. Won't give Gibson keeps pushing James Johnson. If Johnson is what the Bulls are offering I'm glad we are not trading with them.
Celtics. Only thing I want from them is Avery and I doubt they are offering him.
NYK. The rumor was Rudy for Chandler. Portland is winning that by a mile. I would take Walker for Rudy, Pendergraph and Koppenen's rights, but maybe NYK are not agreeable to it.
It is my personal hope that we are looking at packaging other cheap assets with Rudy for maybe a couple future 1sts.
Rudy, Pendergraph, Rights to Claver, Freeland, Koppennen and even Babbitt. All these pieces should be on the block. Eliot Williams is the rookie I would really hesitate to trade.
Babbitt I can't ever see taking Batum's starting spot, so basically all Portland did (which was smart) was replace Webster with a player with a similar skill set on a rookie deal. But then we get Matthews, causing Babbitt to slide down the rotation. Sell high on Babbitt, don't let him become a Joe Alexander.

Based on that summary, I really like the way Cho is handling this.

Re: Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy
The unstated theme that Quick, Rudy's agent, and other teams will understand:
Cho knows numbers.
He knows Rudy's worth to an NBA team. Pay up. Don't try to lowball or make demands. His first deal as GM isn't the time for others to try to play chicken with him.

Re: Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy
A wild Celtics fan appeared! : )
Clearly, Cho is looking to trade Rudy, but is not willing to trade Rudy for just anyone or for the sake of trading him.
To be honest, that's probably a GM you can count on if this is true.
So I summarized the interview, and I praised your GM. I should get two cookies...from SUBWAY! Their snicker-doodle cookies are full of win. : )

Re: Jason Quick: Cho turning deals down for Rudy
Never seen such a poorly managed situation from the get go Rudy should have been traded before or right-after signing Matthews like how KP had a deal line up for Outlaw if Utah didn't match Millsap's offer. Problem was that we didn't have a GM at the time so Cho now has to deal with this unfavorable situation.
He's doing the right thing right now by not accepting crappy offers from teams that don't really have enough valuable assets. Players like Taj Gibson, who would be fair return for a healthy Rudy, aren't being offered simply because their teams don't have many young prospects and they tend to hold on to their just OK prospects like if they were gold.
