James Harden vs Tyreke Evans vs Demar Derozan

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sun Mar 6, 2011 12:40 am

First 3 SGs taken in 09 draft. All are 15ppg+ caliber guys already (Harden is averaging 11 but 15 per 36 would be an obvious 15ppg+ capable guy with more touches IMO)

In which order would you take them now. I would go

1. Harden
2. Derozan
3. Evans

derozan improved the most since last year being a rap fan i get to see him a lot.

tyreke has the best potential imo

harden is the big winner so far playing with kd and westbrook.

I'm telling you guys now, Harden's about to get it going. Since the trade, he's been a lot more assertive looking for his own offense, and his defense is almost as good as Thabo's so Brooks keeps him in the game longer.

Small sample since the All Star Break, but in the last six games he's putting up 17 points a game on 60%+ TS, in only 26 minutes. Plus most of that is coming at the rim, his jumper isn't even falling.

I'll take Harden over the other two long term. I'm not a fan of Evans as a teammate, and I think DeRozan (although improved) will always be hampered by his inability to hit the three. I also think Harden's benefitted a ton from playing alongside Thabo and is the best defensive player of the group.

Tyreke is easily the most talented between the three. And I don't think it's close.

Tyreke Evans is one of the most talented guards in the league but Harden is more of a really good all-round team player with great IQ. I can see a great future for Tyreke, but Harden is just more shifted and complete. Tyreke has just that thing Harden doesn't, but I think Harden just need to keep going to reach his ceiling, because he owns all the tools he must have, Tyreke has a tougher way, his game is incomplete.

Right now:
Harden
Tyreke
DeRozan.

DeRozan.

What can Harden do that Evans can't do in the basket ball court? Shooting the ball in general? Evans, by far, was the most complete rookie in his class. He can:

Score, pass, defend, play in the post, rebound, transition plays.

Evans has the most talent but his attitude and personality suck.

Harden has been beasting since the thunder traded jeff green

DeRozan has improved a lot since last year

If i were to vote who would have the best career, it would go:

Harden
Evans
Derozan
**** Ron Artest
**** Marco Belinelli
Stephen Jackson aint bout dis lyfe
Patrick Beverly deserves to have his knee ripped to pieces

Evans gets the benefit of the doubt for now but with one good season and one season destroyed by injuries / whatever, what else is there to say?

I think Harden's BBIQ and demeanor on the court in general is much better than Evans'. Every time I see Evans play he's doing something that his teammates or coach doesn't like, especially this year.

How exactly?

Can you give me specific examples of this? And don't give me the usual "tyreke evans drive by = bad, cancer player derp derp"

The one that sticks out in my mind is when, against OKC down two and with the ball, he shot a 27 foot, contested three pointer at the buzzer. Then when he missed he was smiling like an idiot. Both the play itself and his reaction would have rubbed me the wrong way if I was a fan of the Kings. i.e. I can't imagine Westbrook doing that.

This is where most non-Kings fan will likely perceive. I don't blame you.

From what I know, Westphal gave the play the "ok". He thought it was a good attempt by Evans. And I don't remember any smiling from Evans.

If he did smiled, so what? Knowing Evans for the last couple of years, when Evans fails at the end of the game he usually be jumping up and down and quieting saying "**** **** ****" It's his way of being frustrated. I rather see that type of emotion than none.

He gave what play the OK?

When asked if he ever thought about taking the ball out of Evans' hands late, Kings coach Paul Westphal said the final play wasn't drawn up specifically for Evans and that Donte Greene had options inbounding the ball. Evans became the best option because he was open and the Thunder took away DeMarcus Cousins in the post.

Isn't this what Cousins and Greene got into a fight after the game about? Because he passed to Evans 30 feet from the rim instead of into the post?

At any rate, Westphal's a good enough coach not to throw his star under the bus for taking a horrible shot at the buzzer. And he's not bad enough to draw up a play like that for Evans, at home, with a chance to take the Thunder to overtime.

As for Evans' reaction, we'll see where this goes. Every time I see him play his demeanor is offputting.

Holy zombie thread.

But really, if you were going to try to embarrass somebody with this maybe early last season before DeRozan became an All Star and while Tyreke was coming off the bench might have been the time. Now DeRozan has been an All Star, Reke is doing work keeping New Orleans in the playoff hunt, and while Harden is obviously #1 they've all turned out to be valuable guys.

Epic bump.

No one really thought Harden had a 27+ ppg / 6 bpg / 8 apg type of mvp potential in him. While Evans just finished a 20/5/6 year at 20 years old. And DeRozan was only an okay, middling SG at the time. My position in this debate 3-4 years ago was reasonable.

It is easy to point out stuff in the past when things are transcribed a bit differently than expected.
