Howards Close Friend Speaks On Dwight Free Agency

Post#1 » by Nolimit1211 » Fri Apr 29, 2011 5:34 pm

"It's nothing against LeBron or Carmelo, but to me, I think Dwight's a pretty loyal guy," said Hawks forward Josh Powell, who has been close with Howard since their childhood in Atlanta. "I know he's hurting right now. He's been with that team since day one. I would assume and expect he would stay there. But it's tough on him to see them get as close as they got two years ago and then fall back."

Powell waited outside the Magic's locker room for Howard to emerge. He did the same thing two years ago while a member of the Lakers after they defeated the Magic in Orlando.

"He's built so many relationships with the fans, the city," said Powell, who is as close to Howard as any player in the league. "He's the face of the organization and the face of that city. The guy has been weathering the storm all year long. He's shown how dominant he is. Can't nobody question what he's given them. But he has a right to do what he wants to do. I'm sure the organization will find a way to please their superstar, so to speak. It's going to be an interesting summer."

But thats not as interesting or controversial and it doesnt make for as good of a story as Dwight wanting out. Thus this and and information contrary to what the media wants to happen, will be ignored and all speculation and "insiders" will continue to insist he's leaving.

At this point, nothing short of Dwight signing a contract, will stop the propaganda train from rolling.

I've always heard about it. They grew up together. Wasn't he on the same AAU team that him and JSmith were on too?

The offer has to go on the table, but some how I feel like putting it out there and thus having the media thrust a question in his face of "what you gonna do?" is a bit "too soon", considering its not even 24hours after this utter failure of a season.

Might have been a idea to wait a couple of days and let the 2nd round get started, wounds to start healing a little bit (beyond what I imagine is white rage atm for most of the guys).

Yeah, last time the Magic were in ATL (before this catastrophe started a week or so ago), Josh went to visit Dwight and his family at Dwight's mom's house. They are very good friends.

I don't think so. But they are good friends.

That AAU team did have, at various points, Dwight Howard/Josh Smith/Javaris Crittendon/Randolph Morris though.

Dwight seems like a loyal guy. That's why all the pressure is all on Otis to get Dwight a legit #2 STUD within the next 2 years. Only way he stays IMO.
