Semi-OT: What do people think of Steve Rosenbloom?

Post#1 » by TheSmooth » Mon Mar 11, 2013 10:57 pm

Not sure if this is on some other post somewhere, but I was curious as to peoples' perspectives on Rosenbloom (writer for the Chi-Tribune, for those who many not know).

Personally, I think he's sniveling idiot, but thats just me. I want to keep an open-mind, so should I give this guy more credit for his stories?
Respek.

I haven't read much of his stuff but from what I did read I really couldn't stand his attitude. He just seemed so bitter and negative about everything. I heard him ranting about how the Bulls won't win without multiple superstars and so nothing this team does matters and there's no point in watching regular season games, etc. Sports are supposed to be for entertainment - lighten up dude!

Yeah, Rosenbloom sucks.

He's incredibly negative to the point of hysteria.

Would fit in well on BlogaBull.

I liked him more when he was writing on poker and conducting the occasional interview. He used to be more tongue-in-cheek. His persona now is so indicting, you'd think he was writing about something more important than sports. The Trib hasn't had a good columnist since Rick Morrissey and Melissa Isaacson left.
"Just gotta stand in front of him," Butler said, as if it were simple.

Don't read too much of him but don't feel like I'm losing much in that regard. Listen to him occasionally on TheScore on Saturday mornings and can't stand the guy. He seems so arrogant. He's really annoying to hear on the radio
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

Jay Mariotti 2.0

The words annoying, condescending, and arrogant can all describe him. Never see him have anything positive to say about anything. Writes opinion pieces that nobody cares to read.

He's completely horrible and always has been. Hi latest about how the Bulls are treating Rose badly is really giant load of crap.

While I do believe that Rose should be out there soon (and I think he will be), I also understand the Bulls stating that it's up to him now. That's just where we're at. Nothing coaches or doctors can do now, it's up to Rose to know when he's mentally ready. To say because of this now free agents won't want to come here is complete nonsense. The big ones haven't come here anyway and it's not because of GarPax. It's because it's so freaking COLD in Chicago! Especially during basketball season.

So Rosenbloom is dead wrong on this one, but he's always whining and complaining oh and yes, dead ass wrong about everything! He's a joke and the Trib should have let him go long ago.

But, other than that he's ok...

He's entertaining to read and listen to, but very much a cranky old man when it comes to his sports opinions.

Rosenbloom is one of those guys who is often wrong, but never in doubt. Do not like.

This is true mostly. Rosenblum has more of an opinion than skip though. Stephen A, Skip, Rome they are all well informed talented people who decided to do schtick to pay the bills. Rosenblum is in the same class. Sports is entertainment solely unless it is your vocation. These guys are the bobby the brain henans.

With so many voices to choose from, especially when there are well informed ones on basketball such as Zach Lowe on Grantland, why would I ever need to read this guy?

That's my thought. Have a feeling these old-school negative-only columnists are going to be relegated to blog-only status at some point in the near future.

Likely. He doesn't really have a voice. I am sure in a bar he is a great chap and I bet insightful. That being said he is part of the sports media vehicle. As Howard Stern stated people who hate him fueled his ratings. Ask Boers and Bernstien if that formula works.
