LeBron startled by hypocrisy of KG, PP leaving Celtics

LeBron James, of all people, is pulling the loyalty card on his longtime enemies.

A day before his first game against the new-look Nets, James said he was startled by hypocrisy upon learning about the trade that sent Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to Brooklyn.

“The first thing that I thought was like, ‘Wow, Ray (Allen) got killed for leaving Boston and now these guys are leaving Boston,” James told reporters on Wednesday. “I think it’s OK. I don’t mind it, but there was a couple guys that basically (criticized) Ray for leaving and everybody else is leaving.”

Although James’ logic is flawed, it does have merit regarding Garnett. It also has the potential to overshadow Jason Kidd’s jersey retirement ceremony before Thursday’s preseason game between the Heat and Nets.

When Allen signed with the Heat as a free agent last year, Garnett said he cut off contact with his former teammate. Terry took a thinly veiled shot at Allen by praising Pierce last season for “his willingness to stick through the tough times, and not jump off.”

Pierce and Terry were traded to the Nets, so there’s only a slight connection, if any. Garnett, however, had a choice — and he decided to waive his no-trade clause instead of retiring or staying with a Celtics team that was entering a rebuilding phase. Garnett had previously said he would never waive his no-trade clause, but that was before the Celtics sent Doc Rivers to the Clippers.

“If it’s up to me, I’m going to retire a Celtic,” Garnett said in February.

Dwyane Wade said Wednesday he would have to give his “media answer” when asked about the relocation of Boston’s former stars. Still, the Miami guard managed to work in a dig.

“We all know how it works,” he said. “People say things about people when they decide to do something but then people do the same thing. It’s about putting yourself in the best situation. It’s about doing what’s best for your family.”

There’s a long history between all the players involved, an admitted hatred that stems from playoff battles. James lost twice in the playoffs to the Celtics while with the Cavaliers. He then joined the Heat — amidst heavy criticism for disloyalty — and finally won that series. The Heat had also lost to Terry’s Mavs in the 2011 Finals.

Allen signed with the Heat last year for half the money the Celtics offered, and hit the biggest shot of the NBA Finals en route to his second title. The Nets play the Heat twice in the preseason. Their home opener Nov. 1 is also against Miami. “I know K.G. and all these guys are going to come with a lot of intensity because of their playoff history. It’s going to be game-like,” Nets center Andray Blatche said about Thursday’s tilt. “And I know they are going to come back at us with the same kind of intensity.”

I hope they destroy the Heat in the play-offs but my hope was much bigger pre-season that they could lol.

You don't have to go to college to understand how comparisons work. Or loyalty, apparently.

Does LeBron have a brain tumor in his head. He should really think before he talks.

LeBron has a point. I am just not worked up because we have Kelly O. We need to get better soon, I am dying to beat this guy before he starts to decline. That's my No. 1 goal.

I don't want to wait out the LeBron era. I want to end it with him 100 percent walking off the floor while Celtics streamers are falling and Geno is dancing.

Let's face it. Garnett flat out said there was no way in hell he plays for another coach or team and that if it was his choice he would retire in Boston. Guess what? The choice was his to waive the clause and he did it. So obviously it's not a traitor move like Allen, people can even argue it was done to help Boston as they were no longer wanted here while Allen was offered a big contract to come back, but the fact remains that Garnett said all those things and did otherwise. Pierce is a different story he flat out got traded and had no choice. I guess he could have called KG and tried his best to make him not waive the clause to see if it would put brakes on the trade so he could stay, but he knew goingg to Brooklyn was better than staying here with this mediocre team. At the end of the day both guys did what Ray did, just not in a dirty way. What Lebron is not getting is that people dont mind that Ray left.. It was his choice and everybody could understand. The problem was he left for Scum beach right after they eliminated us and we became heated rivals. That's low and disgusting. I very much agree with jsf, Danny please give us a squad that can beat these bitches in 2-3 years. I despise Wade like I have never despised anybody else before.

Ray left (via free agency) in the midst of a championship run because he had a problem with management.

Pierce and KG left (via trade that netted assets) when Rondo got hurt and it was obvious the championship days were over. They left on good terms with the Celtics organization.

I don't see how they are comparable at all. Then again, Lebron has proven he is unable to grasp the concept of loyalty and what is acceptable.

Getting traded somewhere and signing somewhere are two different things so no KG and Pierce are not in the Allen boat. Ainge moved on from Rivers and was going to trade Pierce. Now why in the world would KG want to stay in Boston after that?

Absurd.

PP and KG didn't leave the team when it was poised to make a title run.

They were ASKED to leave and KG waived his no-trade clause. It was mutually beneficial. No hard feelings on either side.

LeBron and Wade are good basketball players. Not exactly Rhodes Scholars.

This is the truth.

Brun, i dont know what youre smoking but dont hyperbole this whole thing. You should know and KG has said as such that he wouldve stayed but he saw Paul was about to be traded and Doc was leaving and Paul talked KG into leaving - so dont compare him or Paul to Ray Allen. Management proposed an idea to them and they went with it.

My disapointment over what happened with Pierce and KG is not with the players themselves, but rather with the Celtic owners and with Danny.....

They played their "its just business" card....

Pierce had no choice and Garnett was placed in a very tough position....

Labron should just shut up....He will never live down the rucus that he caused when he left Cleveland, no matter how many times he points the finger at someone else...

Just play the game and STFU....

They didn't do the same thing. I like 85% of this but it's different.

1. 2012 Celtics were supposed to contend
2. Ray dipped on us after loosing to them (you said)
3. He took HALF the money to ball in Miami
4. B*tches about mins to go to Miami & do the same thing there
5. Then just talk stupid sh*t bout Boston once he's down there.
6. Ainge wanted to resign him.

Kg & PP ..
1. We're gonna play for a rebuildling team?
2. Didn't leave us dirty, pp got traded & they said that it felt forced.
3. They're all making their $ & taking care of their families
4 & 5. Only said great things so far.
6. Ainge wanted them out. No malice, but he wanted to start fresh. So they left & nothing but love.

Plus, KG probably took into consideration the fact that he would've hurt the Celtics by not waiving his no-trade clause. If this is how it went down, then waiving the clause was the ultimate act of loyalty.

LeBron and Wade are a pair of butt-hurt nitwits.

Why does this have me so worked up? Wish I didn't care so much, but I'm infuriated.

Comparisons are not even close. The situations are not even in the same galaxy. No-trade was waived because the franchise wanted to trade KG.

WE HAD JUST COME OFF OF A 7 GAME SERIES IN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE **** FINALS WITH MIAMI AND THEN RAY ALLEN WENT THERE.

Guys take off the green glasses. Ray Allen was traded to Memphis at the break before it fell apart late. Doc and Danny told him so. So, at the end of the year, we expected him to resign?

Half the people here used advanced stats to say that Courtney Lee was better. Really?

Ray Made a mistake (he's a New England guy), Celtics made a mistake. It happens. KGs response to a guy he's known since he was a 13 year old was to me shocking.

Everyone has been in a trade thats fallen apart at some point.

Hell Rondo and Green were in a trade with new orleans to get CP3 that fell apart, and they are the 1 and 2 for this current team now with no resentment. It is what it is. I hold no remorse for Ray Allen. This is the nature of the buisness.

You don't have to re-sign, but surely there are 28 other teams out there that he could've gone to(could realistically be whittled down to 10.)

We had battled against miami for supremacy in the East for the previous few seasons and to turn your back on your co-warriors in KG and Pierce is a slap in the face to guys that are supposedly your brothers. Not like Johnny Damon either where it was the most $ because he took a discount.
