Realistic trades for Josh Smith
I know we have another thread on getting rid of Jennings and Smith, but that basically debates the merits of each and digresses into a Knight-Jennings comparison.
With this thread, I'd like to assume that Josh Smith is not a good fit for our team and we would be better without him. The challenge is to find another team that would take him off our hands.
I think we'd be better off without him even if it means getting back expirings. Then we can use that cap space next year to sign a different FA that fits us better.
My favorite is to Dallas for Shawn Marion.

Useless and redundant thread. You just started a new one to shine the spotlight on your bad opinion.

Re: Realistic trades for Josh Smith
I don't see why Cuban would make that deal. If he wanted Smith, he could have signed him this past off-season. Dirk is their PF and they don't have anybody to take Marion's minutes. Plus Cuban probably wants the cap space to offer somebody like Melo a max deal.
Ariza is the most realistic target. Smith is a clear upgrade over Booker and Washington has Webster and Porter to take Ariza's minutes. Probably have to give up an asset or take on Nene. Not sure it makes sense though, as there is a good chance that Ariza would leave in FA and we'd be stuck with Nene, who looks to be on the decline.

Re: Realistic trades for Josh Smith
Realistically? None. We're stuck with him as his value only goes down as we play him out of position and treat him as our go-to scorer when the game in on the line. Which is why Monroe is a goner - we CAN'T keep Monroe and extend him and lock ourselves into playing with this same front court the next three seasons until the Smith contract expires or at least he becomes moveable in the the final year of his deal).

I like smith as a pf he's a better fit for Drummond. Monroe is a center who plays pf. greg hurts Drummond by clogging the lane. No point in having two centers play next to each other.

Re: Realistic trades for Josh Smith
Last time I posted a Josh Smith trade idea, the other principal player (Deng) got dealt within a matter of hours. As such, let's try another one and see if I have magical powers to influence player movement in the NBA!
Seeing as basically all the pieces involved in this one have been rumored to be going where I have them going here, I think this qualifies as "realistic;" unlikely, sure, but not out of the realm of possibility —
HOU IN: Josh Smith
HOU OUT: Omer Asik & Donatas Motiejunas
WHY: They've been rumored to be: a) shopping Asik; b) allowing Motie to look for a trade; and c) interested in adding Smith to Howard & Harden. This is certainly better "win now" return than the previously-rumored Celtic offer of Bass & Lee.
BOS IN: Omer Asik
BOS OUT: Kris Humphries
WHY: They've been rumored as a suitor for Asik, so they swap an expiring to acquire their defensive anchor.
DET IN: Kris Humphries & Donatas Motiejunas
DET OUT: Josh Smith
WHY: Take a mulligan on the Smith signing by getting a $12M expiring back, plus take a shot on a young prospect for our bench.
If any players involved in this deal are actually traded by the end of the night, I'll officially start taking requests to post other trades (for a reasonable fee, of course!).

Nobody is taking him. Perhaps if we threw in the first rounder we likely won't have...

Re: Realistic trades for Josh Smith
I'd love to land McLemore, or Butler/Antetokounmpo, but I doubt the Kings or Bucks would accept. I'd be happy to see him dealt for any expiring, send him to Dallas for Shawn Marion. Or Phoenix for Emeka, or Utah for Richard Jefferson.

We won't be able to move him without taking back someone else's mistake or getting killed in some other aspect of the trade.

No, it isn't redundant. We have multiple trade threads and a lot of things get lost. So yes, if you want to focus on a particular idea or thought, it makes sense to open your own thread.
As for my "bad opinion", is it bad that I think we'd be better off with expirings than Smith? That's my opinion. Sorry that you think he's such an asset to the team.

Getting out of a single year of Ben Gordon's contract cost us a first rounder.
There's no controversy here. Of course we'd be better off with expirings than Smith. For that reason we won't get expirings for him.

Lakers probably would take him and Jennings for Nash+ Expirings. Only team I could think of.

Re: Realistic trades for Josh Smith
I would think smith for Bargnani and Shumpert is fairly realistically if the Knicks want to make a splash to try and keep Melo.
bargnani could be useful once in a way to spread the floor and Shumpert would be a great addition with his D IMO.

Doubt that the Kings would trade both Thornton and McLemore in the same deal what about:
Smith and KCP
for
Outlaw, Landry, McLemore
Jennings / McLemore / Outlaw / Monroe / Drummond
Bynum / Billups / Singler / Landry / Harrelson
Next year we would have a bench of Bynum - Singler - Outlaw - Landry - Harrelson that is a great bench. We could then use the 8th pick (that team should be bad enough), Jerebko's expiring contract, and the money from Stuckey and Charlie V's deal to resign Monroe and find a SF.

Re: Realistic trades for Josh Smith
I like Ariza from Washington as a trade partner but we'd probly have to take Nene. I dunno whose worse, Smith at 14 per for the next 3 after this year or Nene at 13 for the next 2 after this

Nene would be a great 3rd big. Hes an expireing next yr so you can move him for another piece. It just means that we are not FA buyers in 2014 but with Joes track record thats not a bad thing.
