What would your team pay Kanter this offseason?

Post#1 » by loserX » Thu Jan 15, 2015 8:43 pm

Enes Kanter is obviously a divisive figure. He's young and he's got talent, but he's also got work to do.

The good: young, big, can score and rebound on an NBA level, is starting to play better (small sample size alert!).
The bad: poor defensively so far, about to become RFA and will expect to be paid on potential over production, it's not yet clear what kind of big man would partner best with him.

How much do you think your team would offer him in free agency this offseason? I'm trying to get an idea of what the market might look like for him. (You can list your offer even if your team doesn't have that much capspace; there are always S&Ts or other possibilities. I'm just looking for where your team might place his fiscal worth.)

If there was hope to resign him I'd do something around Jackson/Lamb for Kanter/filler, but doubt Utah would.

Edit: Heck, if it would only cost 8-10, I'd trade for him.

The W's don't really need him but if they did...
I'd probably offer around 8 Mil and not go any higher then 11 if I was desperate. The opportunity to get a player of Kanter's potential doesn't come around very often. Even more so the opportunity to get that player for potentially low risk deal is even more appetizing. Especially when you consider the fact that 8-9 mil a year in the new CBA might be the norm for a capable big man. Problem is if I offer 4 years at 32-36 Utah most likely would match.

It's a tricky situation with Gobert waiting in the wings (although the Gobert hype train is quickly getting out of control and that's coming from someone who's been a fan of his since the draft) plus Kanter really not capitalizing on the potential he most definitely has. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Unless things go terribly wrong for Dallas, we won't have any cap space. It's going to be close I think on having the full MLE. I would definitely give him that, but I don't consider that a serious offer.

So nothing to fear from Dallas driving up the price.

No offer from Minny but not because he sucks. Pek and Dieng are already on the books and Flip has his sights set on Okafor or Towns.

I think the Jazz will match up to $11M if they don't trade him by the deadline. I don't think he'll be overpriced under the new CBA.

If the Jazz come out of this draft with Towns or Porzingis, then maybe they let Kanter walk, but barring that I think they'll match him.

Bigs usually get paid and with a rising cap, Im going to assume its something above 10M per year.

So you trade two shot creators for Kanter and then you sign him for 8-10M /4 yr this summer and play him where?

If I was Okc I would take that and run. Jackson and Lamb don't have the potential of Kanter combined . Plus they have Waiters and Morrow . If they can replace Perkins with Kanter than they already upgraded .

Honestly, if Waiters can fill RJ's role yeah. Lamb's not playing at all. A frontcourt rotation of Adams/Ibaka/Kanter is good now and for years to come.

Kanter on the Thunder would be scary... I would seriously probably not do it just because of that. Kanter went to Al Jefferson university for his post game (seriously) but Kanter is quicker, more athletic, and a better shooter (adding the corner 3 to his game) than Al is. Al, used to, and still does, rave about Enes' potential as a low post scorer.

I believe he gets 10 at the minimum. In order for someone to believe they can steal him, I think it has to be over 10. Not quite sure where Utah's line in the sand is, but the Hayward match might discourage teams from pursuing Kanter, since they may be more willing to risk somewhat of an overpay before they risk letting him go, only to watch him break out for someone else. I can see this going either way, so only time will tell.

No offer from Philly. We like our centers injured and straight from the draft, not as a hand me down 4 years later.

No offer from MIN unless they somehow moved Pekovic.

In the old NBA economics, I'd have said he'd get 3 years, $28 mil, With everyone eyeing the new increase in payroll, I think someone will pay him 3 for $38. In either scale, bigs get paid, and someone always projects great things. I am not sure Utah would match that. Then we at RealGM all claim it's a horrible deal and he'll never be traded, until he is.
