League source: Bulls talking Taj trade

Post#1 » by fleet » Sun Jun 26, 2016 7:21 pm

To add some further clouds to the Bulls frontcourt rotation, a league source said that the Bulls have been talking to several teams about the possibility of moving Taj Gibson. The power forward is in the final year of his contract, scheduled to make $8.9 million

As much as I think all these old vets need to be moved, we're really gutting our locker room leadership. Deng, Noah, Taj, Pau, Dunleavy, Kirk. All gone or soon to be gone. The only guy left in that locker room with any shred of leadership ability is Jimmy.

We are making this team in the image of Fred Hoiberg.

I like Taj, but Taj can give us asset this next year in rebuild. He is UFA and we wouldnt bring him back. I think we will move him during a season. And we will likely send him to a good team.

The Bulls should be "talking" trades at the least on everyone on the roster.

Unless this is actually done to add significant talent to the team, I'm against it. If we're gonna tank then there is no reason to hold onto Jimmy. With the kind of contracts that are about to be given out, Taj is on a ridiculous bargain contract. It's like we're actively making moves to make us a treadmill team. Not bad enough to get a good draft pick, not good enough to even make the playoffs. This team has absolutely no direction.

I like it because it's pointing to a tanking season. Next to be traded would probably be MDJ then Calderon. Run with Jimmy and the young ones, see what we have. Get a top 5 pick in the process. Hopefully by next offseason we have Jimmy, a top 5 pick, developed young players, 2 max FA slots and maybe the SAC pick to sign or trade for a star.

I actually like this move. I am pro-tanking one season in deep and good NBA class. We will get ourselves better pick and we will get asset (pick) for Taj.

I'd keep Taj unless the return is very good. If only for culture and teaching.

I'm gonna be really sad when we move Taj, but we need to. We need to go all in on Niko and Portis to really find out what we have. The Pau Gasol experiment really got in the way of Niko's development, IMO.

Let's not waste Taj's last few years. Send him to a contender and get a pick out of it.

I hope its Minnesota for Taj, but I don't want him traded.

This team will give up 120ppg this season...

If we were actually tanking Jimmy would've been gone on draft night. This team is trying to build around Hoiberg's system, and around Jimmy, but they're going about it in an awful and misguided way. We don't have the necessary assets to retool the way they're attempting to.

I wonder if there's any world where Taj/Dunleavy for Rubio could be worked out.

I'm not the biggest Rubio fan ever born, but if Minnesota has any interest, I'd be interested in discussing that kind of a trade.

Until we know what the end game here is, you can't really evaluate this move on it's own. They could be trading Taj for either simply more cap space (seems unlikely), a young player with potential, a future draft pick or a vet to shore up some other position (icky choice).

This is again them trying to be in all options like the Jimmy trade rumors. This is not surprising. They have probably shopped Taj too. Well, Taj has been in rumors for a long time. I guess they are making a list of what you can get for everyone drafted before 2012.

I just would love to know what are the reality acquisitions for Taj. It's hard to tell, because fans always overrate their players.

I think a Jerami Grant would be a great return. A TJ Warren?.A Rondae Hollis-Jefferson...

Are these possible gets?..

I don't know the fascination with Rubio. He is a complete mis-fit for this team especially with Jimmy. And, you kind of have an young guy who can be do what he does in Grant.

If they are trading Taj, they should get a combo-guard who can play with Jimmy or a decent SF which Snell never became or some future pick.

Taj/Snell for Crowder would be interesting.

The other thing is Hoiberg played him more than any big at all times. It is not Hoiberg driving this.
