should matt carroll start at the two?

Post#1 » by thaAteam » Fri Sep 4, 2009 3:19 pm

okay, its clear we want to get rid of carroll, i hink maybe we should start him at 2 to try to see if we can get his value up, maybe give him 8 to 10 games starting, kinda like a showcase, he wont play heavy minutes but atleast hype him up to get teams to notice him, what do yall think?

I wouldn't bench Howard or Marion, so unless you want this lineup, then no.

Wow... This may be one of the worst ideas ever proposed. Matt Carroll is lucky to even be in the NBA. I would rather have Mark Cuban suit up and start at SG than Matt Carroll. As far as having him out there and "showcasing" him, he has nothing to showcase other than his towel waving. PASS! Just trade/waive this scrub already.

Matt Carroll with a training camp away from Larry Brown may not be all that bad. I want to see what he does after a Carslile training camp before calling "worst ever" or "scrub"

we arent going to waive him clearly, but he can get some value if he plays with the starters and plays well. atleast a shorter contract or expiring best case if a teams seems he is in our rotation. he can still shoot, and will get wide open shot with the starters.

If he can get back to his pre-Larry Brown days, I would not want to trade him. $4.1/yr is a good deal for that Carroll.

YEA, BUT WE ARE ALREADY LOADED IN THE BACK COURT SO THE MINUTES HE WOULD GET WOULDNT JUSTIFY HIS SALARY. HE ISNT GOING TO BEAT OUT HOWARD, JET, OR BAREA FOR MINUTES SO BEST CASE, IF HE GETS 10 MINUTES A GAME, IT NOT GOING TO BE ENOUGH TO OUTWEIGH HIS CONTRACT

Unconvetional as the idea may be, I can see where you are coming from. Two seasons ago MC was a double digit scorer. Last season he never had a chance to find his rhythm. With an opportunity he might surprise some people, but he is not what we need here. If he can't be effective for 3-5 min a game as purely a 3 pt. specialist, then his only use is an injury reserve back up. I don't think teams have forgotten about him, but with his bad performances last year I can see why it would be a good idea to advertise a bit.

true about him not producing in limited time, but also he was playing with scrubs, our starters with him also could open up the floor, all he needs is a string of 10 to 12 point games just to get him some exposure, he doesnt creat his shot so its hard for him to be effective with the second unit since we dont have a true backup pg

I have no problem with him starting in preseason at the 2 to see what he brings to the table. However if he shows nothing or very little than put him right back on the end of the bench.

If Carroll can consistently hit jump shots, he would basically be a 6'6" Terry so I see no problem with him getting some time with the core group.
We really need JHo to become our primary SG though.

Mavs has already failed to raise up his value last season. What can we expect under the same HC?
It was the last seasons Carlisles task. (as DAntoni owed for Z Bo, Crawford, Curry and Jeffries)

I dont expect our Coach C about it anymore. We should trade him BEFORE his value is going down more.

I 100% agree with the original poster. I think Carroll needs to start or at least play 30 minutes a game in order to showcase him to increase his value. The best case scenario is that he shows production in extended minutes and becomes a trade asset along with giving JHo and Jet some rest up until the trade deadline. The worst that can happen is that he shows nothing and is buried on the bench again and the Mavs have to overpay their 13th man for the next few years. I see no harm whatsoever in at least trying to make a trade asset out of Carroll.

I have no idea what you just said, shimo.

Fact is, this is ridiculous. Carroll should never see the court. Teams know what he is, we shouldnt have to ruin relationships with better players to get him some PT. Can you honestly imagine JHO not starting at the 2 in contract year? I think not.

Its not his play, or lack thereof, that is the deciding fact in a trade for him - its his contract. I can see us moving him as a piece to the cost-cutting-puzzle for another team, but we arent gonna screw up the image of this team to make it happen.

i disagree, its not his contract its his play or lack there of, shooters are always in high demand, his salary is very reasonable if he can produce 10 to 12 pts a night. teams always need good shooting two guards
