It'll be on the new Stadium channel that will likely be ready in September/October for preseason

Standard Media Group in partnership with the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox will be the new television broadcast home for all three teams beginning in October, according to an internal document obtained by The Athletic.

The media group is expected to make the network, which is unnamed, available across “multiple platforms,” including over-the-air and carriage agreements with cable and streaming providers.

NBC Sports Chicago is the current broadcast home for the Blackhawks, Bulls and White Sox. The teams’ contract with NBC Sports expires in October.

Standard Media Group, which is based in Nashville, Tenn., is a local broadcast and digital media company. According to its website, the group has television stations in Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska and Rhode Island.

The new network will not be associated with Stadium, a multi-platform network, which Bulls and White Sox owners Jerry Reinsdorf purchased majority control of in 2023.

https://www.nba.com/bulls/news/chicago-sports-network-chsn-to-launch-as-new-home-to-the-chicago-blackhawks-bulls-and-white-sox

The network will launch with agreements in place with traditional cable providers, streaming services and be available via free, over-the-air broadcast.

Yes, it was nice to read him for free. I don’t think there is a good substitute for what he provides for Bulls fans.

They haven't figured any of this out yet, I imagine. They don't have carriage deals in place, which will probably influence what they do re: OTA.

Hopefully this network hires some of the former NBC folks.

I linked the Chicago Bulls official press release and put in quotes the line about it being available for free OTA.

I doubt the details are confirmed yet given this just was announced 2.5 hours ago, but they put free OTA in the press release. I'm not sure what other confirmation you could hope for at this stage.

I like the simple, to-the-point name and I like that it's free over the air, but I wonder how this will change the fan experience.

Hopefully guys like K.C. and Garfien stick around.

If this could somehow get the White Sox to move on from Jon Schriffen I will be eternally grateful. I will never criticize Amin and King again after being forced to listen to this bozo for the past 2+ months.

Absolutely huge news that it's free over the air. I'm done with paying for TV forever hopefully.

Not a Sox fan so my perspective is skewed. But that Schriffen guy is so bad its hilarious. That ridiculous Pham slide/video clip is so freaking hilarious to watch, its great. Kind of like how the Sox being historically bad is more entertaining than just being like really bad but in a Marlins/Rockies kinda way. The icing on the cake there is that the highest pick they can get is the 10th pick too because of MLB draft rules, which I didn't realize before randomly venturing to the MLB tankathon site.

Schriffen says some clown stuff, he knows nothing about baseball or the people who play it, he really seems like an amateur, but I think his heart is in the right place and that he'll get better. I like the homer shtick, shades of Hawk Harrelson and Neil Funk rather than Amin/Benetti (both of whom I like, just not as local announcers. their bread is buttered by a national audience and that's a conflict of interest). Schriffen makes a point that it's a south side team and hearkens to some idea that a sports team represents something more to a fanbase than wins and losses. Whether or not fans actually care is another story, but I do.

He's really bad at calling baseball games though. His level of energy and voice is good enough, he just doesn't understand what he's looking at. Doesn't know any of the Sox minor league players, doesn't know who any of the opposing players are, doesn't understand why teams do certain things in certain situations. It's kind of pathetic that they even hired an announcer based on "tools", it's his first serious job,, but I hope he takes the job seriously and gets better at it, because there is "potential".

why I clicked on this thread in the first place and maybe someone with 2 or 3 more brain cells than me can answer this. I'm just reposting from a different forum, but it's regarding why this network is offering 'free over the air' broadcast:

The thing I constantly wonder about regarding sports on television is that I haven't had cable or paid for a sports streaming service in probably a decade. Why would I pay for something when the pirated version is just as good? It's a free alternative to an expensive service and the quality is the same. The barrier of entry to understand how to watch these games is also low, even my aged father has figured it out. The leagues could have probably shut this down, but they've done nothing about it.

Why not? Some survey was done by a sportsbook a few months ago noting that 35% of respondents pirate NFL games, slightly less than those that use an online streaming service and far more than those who watched on cable. You might assume a similar rate for the NBA, then you see how massive their new TV deal is going to be. What I don't understand is that it seems to me that the money doesn't actually come from people watching the games on cable. One might assume you still look at the same amount of advertisements, but you're watching the League Pass experience so you're not seeing any ads. Will they ever crack down on illegal streams? I doubt it.

My other thought process is on: What the hell happened to "Stadium"? Was that just a failed investment by Reinsdorf when he could have been investing in the on the court/field product? It doesn't seem like Silver Chalice is even operating anymore, my lowbrow impression is that Reinsdorf tried to become a media mogul and failed miserably at it.

I would find it surprising that he “knows nothing about baseball” given he was a collegiate baseball player.

I think he just sucks at the job.
