That's not enough salary heading back from LA, the Lakers are right up against the apron and can't take back more salary than they send out.

Either way, I doubt Knecht gets included in any trade for LaVine.

Russell makes 18 plus, Rui makes 17 plus, Knecht makes 3 plus. Lavine makes 40. That ought to do it.

LaVine makes 43, so the Lakers need to send out 43 or more.

Looks like Hood-Shifino is the only contract you could add to those other guys to make the numbers work, but then you still have roster spot issues to figure out, so what you really need to do is add Reaves, Vincent, or Vanderbilt and then more outgoing guys from the Bulls.

Lakers were in heavy discussions in trade for Jerami Grant over the summer.

$30M
16 ppg 3 rpg 2 apg / 34% 3P / 52% TS

The only reason it didn't happen was POR asking for 2-3 1st round picks.

If $30M for Jerami Grant is a big need, it seems like Lavine would be a far stronger addition. The difference in contract money is basically Gabe Vincent, averaging 6 ppg on 20% 3P. I would assume AK would send Lavine off for cheaper than Jerami Grant as well.

$43M
22 ppg 4 rpg 4 apg / 43% 3P / 64% TS
