Is it?

Skiles in his first year improved the team from 23 to 47 wins. In the playoffs Curry and Deng are injured. The team trades their leading scorer for draft picks. The Bulls still make the playoffs the next season with 41 wins, lose in the playoffs when Shaq destroys Chandler. The next season the Bulls win 47 games, sweep the Heat, and lose to the Pistons in 6.

The season after that was terrible, but it was a nice 3 year run. No other coach besides Thibbs and Skiles has won a playoff series.

He got a gig coaching the Bucks afterwards and they improved from 26 to 34 wins. In his 2nd season they won 46 games and lose in 7 in the first round.

Before the Bulls, he was coach of the Suns. He improved them from 27 wins to 53 wins and a playoff series win his first season.

Things don’t end the best with him, but could another coach have done better with the talent? The best players his teams have are 1999 Jason Kidd, 2007 Luol Deng, and 2010 Michael Redd.

He’s much better than JB.

It was 49 wins in 06-07 but i think the 04-05 squad was the best of the bunch when fully healthy. Skiles and Paxson both lost the team in 07-08 and got lucky landing Rose in the draft. Paxson had nice draft strategy with good player development but just couldn't get the coach figured out. He ended up losing his way in the end because of it.

1. Thibs - Self explanatory; had the best roster, but also had devastating injuries and still made the team competative and fun to watch. Saw Noah, Gibson, Butler, Nate Robinson all blossom under his watch. An upgraded Skiles. Not a great talent evaluator. We traded 2 picks for McDermott.

2. Donavon - I think Skiles is a better tachtician, but Billy is so much more likeable and players like him. This year he has shown to mold his coaching to the roster. His teams are scrappy. I don't think he'll ever move the needle, and will be outcoached in the playoffs by elite coaches such as Spoelstra, etc. But, he's a good coach to help develop and stabilize the culture. When we get a championship worthy roster, then it may be time to get the coach that moves us from point B to A. But, that's not happening for 5-7 years minimum. So, we'll probably keep Donavon for awhile, until he wants to go to a better team.

3. Skiles - Great tachtician, all grit. Teams maximized under his watch before he wears out his welcome. Excellent defensive teams. But, could only last 2 years

4. Del Negro - In over his head. But, did put players in good positions and they actually overacheived as a team in 08-09 to end the season and had one of the best playoff series I've ever been a part of. I'll never forget when Paxson punched him for overplaying Noah. Let Rose develop freely, which was great for his growth.

5. Cartwright - Respectable coach. Had a plethora of young players, but never got a real shot. I think he had a positive impact on Tyson and Curry's development

6.. Hoiberg - Soft as charmin. No real plan. Jimmy Butler's tiriade aggainst him was well warrented. Underacheived with all his rosters. Didn't develop any young players

The rest just suck so bad

7. Boylan - like others said, he got us Rose. Did nothing else.

8. Floyd - Was placed in a terrible position. But, also did nothing for 5 years.

9. Boylen - The biggest moron I've ever seen coach. Literally embarrassing for this trash to be on the floor. Will likely never get close to a head coaching job in the NBA or College Basketball because of his tenur

What a mediocre list that is, ouch.

Going with consensus - Thibs out in front.

FWIW Hoiberg seems to be doing well at Nebraska:

2019: 7-25
2020: 7-25
2021: 10-22
2022: 16-16
2023: 23-11
2024: 9-2

This should be incredibly easy for me:

1. Thibs - no brainer
2. Skiles - built the baby bulls and prepared them for that playoff run with Rose
3. Cartwright - nothing fancy
4. Donovan - nothing fancy again, but underachieved (sure you can call injuries here)
5. Hoiberg - another worthless coach that shouldn't have been at the NBA level (the fact that he is 5th and by far one of my least favorite coaches of all-time speaks volume to our coaching talents)
6. Del Negro - was never ready to be a head coach
7. Boylan - squandered a decent team that Skiles built
8. Floyd - horrendous but the roster was just as bad
9. Boylen - good college coach, strategist but not NBA level

Its been a **** since 1998! Also funny how in my opinion, BY FAR the two best coaches were the nitty-gritty, grind it out guys!

1 Thibs
2 Skiles

The rest is probably led by Donovan, but he may be somehow nice for the players, he is bad with ingame decisions and rotations. Developing players is not really his forte either. He needs to go.

Holy **** we’ve had bad coaches.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o
