Teams will overpay in free agency. They will not trade to overpay in a year and give you something.

Free agency is just cash and you keep your assets.

Well the huge difference being that they'd get an additional 2 playoff runs with Coby on his cheap deal vs waiting a year and a half.

You asked why they would be willing to overpay in free agency vs trade.

I explained why. They might not be willing to give up what the Bulls want in a trade but are willing to pay in free agency.

Check the bold text.

I did not say the benefits.

Fair enough. You're on to a good point, but I still think that he won't get a big contract from another team if the offers for him now are merely a late first and salary filler. It's a sign that he's not that desirable. Which shouldn't be surprising, considering what we just got for Zach and considering many Bulls fans don't seem to want Coby around at all themselves.

I am saying Bruce Brown got a 25 million dollar contract.

He will be 26. There are 30 other teams. Someone will pay him.

****, you're probably right. It's hard for me to wrap my head around because I just see it as so utterly obvious that a late first is not likely to ever be a guy you'd want to give 25 mil a year to, so I see it as crazy that a team would give that kind of money to a guy that they wouldn't give up a good first for, but I simply value picks much, much less than most of the league does.

Are you Arthurias?

Most teams value picks because it allows you to acquire talent at a set price. Plus every one loves gambling.

Lol, that's what it must be - I do genuinely dislike gambling. And I feel like the draft is mostly a crapshoot where most picks in the mid to late first and all of the second round are simply totally irrelevant players, especially during their first 4 years. I have very, very little interest in any draft picks other than guaranteed top ten picks in whatever the next draft is at any point in time.
