He looks overrated, and I bet he's a bust.

This is quite the hot take. Cooper Flagg is destroying college basketball as a Freshman.

He’s no Wemby or Luka from what I’ve seen. He’s no Anthony Davis either. I don’t see generational talent.

Who claimed he was a generational talent?

He was definitely hyped up like one going the Fall. Don’t see it as much any more. Which is also why I’m not so concerned about winning the lottery. I just want to move up. There are least two or three players that could end up as good or better than him. Don’t get me wrong though. I would love get him and have young core of Flagg, Buzelis and Giddey next season.

I'm not sure there was any hype as a generational player.

That being said, Cooper Flagg is absolutely a cornerstone you could build your team around/with. He just plays a winning style of Bball, but as you said there are other players that also can be built with.

Idk about generational talent but everyone is making a big deal about Flagg. So much talk about tanking for him not just the bulls but around the league.

Dont know if hes that good or not, I don’t watch him play but he is definitely over hyped as someone who is going to be special in the NBA. Last time a college player that was this hyped was Zion.

Every year, there is a player coming into the league that is touted as the next big, more often than not, it's a marketing ploy to generate buzz about the NBA's future.

It's unlikely that he is going to be a generational talent, but he looks to have All-Star level talent and when you're a crappy team, an All Star level young talent is still a massive get.

Generational talent is called generational talent for a reason.
Why so serious?

Is he being over hyped? Zion was being labelled the next big thing after LeBron, I'm not seeing ANY of that type of hype when it comes to Flagg. How can you claim someone is over hyped if you've never seen them play?

Either way, it's clear Flagg is the no. 1 pick for this draft, no one has come close. I was very 'meh' on Flagg initially, but he's won me over.

From what I can see, the consensus on Flagg is that he's a sure thing. Write him in as a franchise player. Which puts him above the typical NBA #1. But people pull back from the generational label. He's not regarded as Wemby II.

For me, he's gonna be Jimmy Butler without (one hopes) the ego. He reminds me so much of Jimmy -- a two-way game that on offense consists of bullying players inside & drawing fouls (Cooper gets fouled a LOT) and jump shots, while serving as a secondary playmaker who creates baskets not through flair but instead through super-high BBIQ. Like Jimmy, Cooper is happy to play without the ball for long stretches, he picks & chooses when to take over. And like Jimmy, he's a great positional defender and hard nosed.

The main concern about Cooper is unspoken, which is that he's a white forward, and we've been down this path before with Danny Ferry, Adam Morrison, Christian Laettner, etc. But for me, he's athletically superior to those guys. Stronger & more explosive. Is he as athletic as LeBron or Wemby? Ummm, nope. But I don't see how anybody can say that he's less athletic than, say, Jimmy or Tatum, and that's plenty good enough to be a damn useful NBA player.
