Jones is pretty good, and might be back (though tbh I doubt it), but IMO he won't and shouldn't be a starter. His primary benefits are defense at the 1 position and distribution. Giddey is going to be primary distributor, with Coby secondary, and although Jones is good defensively at the 1, that would leave us extremely weak defensively at the 2/3 where IMO he doesn't have the size to have the impact we need. We really need a defender who can defend primarily the 2, but also the 1 and 3 to switch with Coby or Giddey if they have a real tough matchup. That's why Ball and Terry are pretty ideal on D for that role, with Ayo and Patrick also better options.

I don't disagree, but IMO AK came out of the trade saying he wanted to keep Jones and essentially gave him the starting gig over Huerter. I think the reality is that Ayo, who I think was the odd man out and headed for an offseason trade, may have lowered his offseason trade value enough with the injury such that the Bulls may not trade him and the roster spot won't be there for Jones.

I think after Huerter and Ball, who IMO are both FAR ahead of the other 3, that Phillips is better than the other 3. Phillips does those little things on both ends, and doesn't need the ball to impact the game.

Well, after the trade, Ayo started until he got hurt, then Ball started until he got hurt, then Huerter and Terry even each got a chance to start before Jones finally started a mere 9 games until he too got hurt. I don't think he provides enough defensive size /versatility or three point shooting.

I still think Ayo is the best bet to start, even if Jones is back. Phillips would push Giddey to a guard spot which is bad IMO. I think Ayo or Terry or our draft pick will get a chance before Ball or Patrick cause those guys are more valuable on the bench and neither is very reliable for different reasons.

Body wise, Dalen could be great fit to start at SF, if he would improve that much.. size, energy, grit, defense.. shooting he improved as well! BUT he is still somehow few steps away from starting player, more #8 or #9 guy..

PWill kinda same if he gets back to rookie body.. both guys can be longterm SF solutions, if they improve enough, but there is a lot of IFs.

It's an interesting notion, but I would rather aim higher than whatever ceiling remains for either guy as our starter. I would rather start Ball, Huerter or Phillips.

I voted yes and I guess I saw more potential than he had. He does shoot the ball much better, he rebounds and he does play hard on the defensive end. But here it is two years later and he still tries to play too fast for what he can do, outrunning his own dribble at times. Still gets u in the air with nowhere to pass the ball. He still touch fouls the shooter, still makes the sloppy passes. These are things, with all the AC and Demar mentoring he really should have outgrown. I don't see why another team would want him when you look at so many opponents bring in off the bench who can put up 10-15 points in a half without the mistakes

Body wise, sure, but even with his improvement he'd still be a lower tier starter in this league. If Matas bulks up a bit, you're good playing him at the 4 and going White/Giddey/Huerter at the 1,2,3. If you decide to play Matas at the 3 (would create some nice mismatches) then you can bring Huerter off the bench and play our draft pick or a FA signing at the 4. As we've demonstrated before, a Torrey Craig level starter is really all you need at the 4 to be an above average unit.
