OT: Masai Ujiri out as Raptors President

Post#1 » by MalagaBulls » Fri Jun 27, 2025 1:59 pm

Only posting because there was a time not so long ago where most of us pined for an executive of his caliber, now we're stuck in pergatory.

That is interesting. Did he go against ownership’s wishes during the draft? Or was this already a done deal and the draft was just the swan song.

It's been strange for TOR lately. Their goal is a strong playoff run, but the two guys they traded off their team Pascal Siakam and OG have been the key players on an EC Finals and NBA Finals team. The picks from the Siakam trade are two Indiana picks and a "least valuable" pick which will most likely be from OKC...basically 2nd rounders in quality.

OG got them a 2nd round pick.

Interesting to see accountability from other ownerships compared to what AK did to Chicago.

I doubt that one pick would get a championship POBO fired, and if ownership cares about the draft they can be part of the process to make the Toronto big board like we saw firsthand with Sacramento & Ranadive. This has to be about the pivot away from the FVV/Siakam/OG team, all of whom are doing great on their respective teams and TOR really didn't get anything of value back for any of them.

I guess ownership didn't want CMB any more than I did? ;)

Guy has the 6’9 Swiss Army knife obsession.

Gotta have shooting. He never got it.

I thought it was weird that he drafted CMB over Maluach who has African connections. Looks like he probably didn’t even make the pick.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

I think this is a main reason why he out. In a way ownership was shown there was no need to tear it completely down and rebuild from scratch. But even with that he would gotten away with it if in return for them he didnt get bad assets. Yes there was possibility those picks be valuable, but they turned into non lottery picks. Picks worth of cash consideration for some franchise in Central division. I will not name it which one. Dont wanna make owner less money. Guy is paying rent and living salary by salary. Hard life.

It seems that ownership may not want to pay him, but Masai hasn't done a good job since winning the title.

Traded a FRP for Thad Young.

Traded a FRP for Poeltl. Turns out you still need a center and can't play a bunch of 6'9 wings/forwards.

Let FVV walk for free.

I agree with trading Siakam and OG since paying both 40M is probably too much for a team that won't get to the 2nd round. However, Masai waited too long, and the Raptors are paying RJ, Quickley, and Ingram even more combined.

Raps fan here: Ed Rogers got majority control, he ran the best baseball GM we've ever had out of town in AA. He inherited his dad's business, is a complete nepotism baby who visits Mara Lago to hang with Trump and has hated Masai for a long time. I assume he's also racist because there's never been a black executive at Rogers under his control. He was against Masai's contract extension last time and tried to get Silver to block it when he was minority owner.

I would say that explains the situation.
