This seems mostly dumb to me because I bet like 1% of Bears fans are following how the offense looks in the first few days of camp. People who post on message boards and get mad about tweets about camp performance are a pretty niche segment of the fanbase.

I agree with Bulls69 that it's quite likely the offense is going to look pretty ragged for the first 4-6 games. I just hope that even with that, they'll be able to make enough plays to be competitive. With the playmakers they have, and Caleb's ability to improvise, they should be able to put some points on the board, even if the consistency isn't there.

Dresden, I just hope our defense is solid until the offense comes around. The base is going to panic, trust me.

This coach has a plan, and that’s great. We might have some growing pains even into the season but long term i think we will be fine.

Love to see that Ben is coaching the opposite of what AK is GMing.

AK wants to win not build a winner.

Ben is building a winner.

Ben is doing the right thing. And also, we have spent the last handful of years complaining about our coaches that deign to try and coach our quarterback to do uncomfortable things from the pocket within their system, correct footwork on throws, play on time from under center. Hopefully Ben is gonna pull it off. Interesting that Ben isn’t held to the same skepticism

This pressure from the defense is different than what they did last season? IIRC, last summer we heard a lot of chirping that the defense wasn’t going to go easy on Caleb. They were bringing it, because that’s what he supposed to have needed. I would be interested to know what Ben Johnson expects the quarterback to read pre snap and post snap. Last season Caleb had a lot of responsibility. More than most rookies. On offense, teams always pare things down later, this is normal stuff.

Sounds like the offense and Caleb were much better today. Odunze seems to be a favorite target. Loveland had his first practice and looked good, they say. Monongai has looked good. And Kiran apparently was pretty good on the first team today. that's encouraging.

Theres an UDFA WR that apparently has been turning heads both in the spring and now in camp too. Maybe a dark horse to make the 53 man?

Apparently Kiran had to exit yesterday's practice and walked off with the head trainer. Doug Kramer left practice with an injury. No mention on severity on either. Pads come on next week.

I know this is Ben Johnson's first head coach gig, but he sure does look the part even in his interview.

I've also heard Johnson say recently they are still trying to figure out what kind of offense this team will run. It sounds like they are in the process of evaluating what everyone can do/can't do, and then find a scheme that will fit.

I think it's a little bit of the same with Caleb- on the one hand they want to coach him to be able to play in a way that will make him a success in the NFL, while at the same time, tailoring the offense to his strengths and weaknesses. A bit of a balancing act.

Friday, Wanny had a Caleb take on CC. It’s increasingly clear how uncoached Caleb is as far as a pro type of game style, which has been slow to upgrade into Caleb’s computer. And when we talk about how good Ben is theoretically for Caleb, how good is Caleb for Ben?

Williams' playing style hasn't translated well to the NFL, which combined with his struggles with coaches, limited the Bears to only five wins in 2024. During Friday's episode of "The Herd," Colin Cowherd asked NFL analyst Dave Wannstedt about whether Williams' tendencies on the field should concern fans.
Wannstedt also talked about Williams playing hero ball more than necessary, which has happened again during training camp.

“Yes, it is (something)," Wannstedt said. "I would just say this, Caleb, keep in mind, last year at training camp, he was a guy that had a tough time getting a snap because he was never up under center. I mean, this is how primitive the whole pro passing game under center, play-action pass was to this kid. And then, Ben does everything by timing.

"Now, you got to get it obviously to the right person or it might be five steps. So, there is a learning process here. I would probably say the biggest difference between here and OTAs is now there's a pass rush and they're not hitting the quarterback."

He added that Williams hasn't adjusted to the defense thrown at him in the NFL.

"You go back to his college days, Colin, at USC, this guy, he saw more three-man rush and more of a prevent defense than any quarterback in college football because they knew that he wouldn't sit in the pocket," Wannstedt said.

"He was going to scramble and he was going to try to throw it deep. So, this is now all of a sudden play fake and it's coming out one, two, three. This is completely foreign to him.”

At least Poles got another contract and can pick his next QB only to get fired again one year later and have the next GM sabotage that next QBs career.

So you think Caleb is going to be a bust?
