Bump.
Ok, so I finally convinced myself that barring any type of blockbuster deal, Maggette is the player this team needs to get. I think we can all agree that when our outside shots aren't falling, our offense becomes stagnant and we become too predictable. Enter Maggette.
I went through the thread and didn't see this important stat mentioned anywhere. Maggette is currently 8th, let me repeat that, 8th in the ENTIRE league (regardeless of position), with 8.6 FTA's per game. Who are the seven players ahead of him you ask? Howard, Wade, RJeff, James, Martin, Arenas and Iverson.
At 8.6 FTA's per game, that puts him at MORE than twice as many FTA's as our leader, BG (3.9 FTA's). That difference is staggering to say the least.
Of course I'm certain his trips to the line would decrease in our offense, but I'm hoping his added dimension helps institute the changes we've all been advocating around here, more motion.
For the price I believe it would take to acquire him, I firmly think he'd give us the most "bang for the buck." We'd open up the froncourt, add a missing dimension, and hopefully help reshape the dynamic of our offense.
Injury is a concern, but he's still 28, and when he's on the court there's no denying he brings a whole new dimension to this team. Not to mention that as his hometown team, we'd probably be able to sign him to a contract similar to what we gave Noc.
Maybe we wait til the summer for him to opt out, wait to see how the season plays out, who we end up drafting, and what we do with the Deng/BG extensions, at which point we might be able to work some sort of S&T. Either way, I would have to think that Maggette would somehow make his way towards the top of our priority list.
