OT: The Dunk Contest

Post#1 » by TB#1 » Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:27 pm

OK. I'm not really a big fan of the dunk contest, even though I usually end up watching it. I am looking forward to it this year, because I want to see Dwight Howard come up with something spectacular and get rewarded after getting completely jobbed last year when he didn't win for Sticker Dunk.

So the fans have the final say? Interesting.

I really don't like this contest, it gets worse and worse. Hopefully Howard can keep it interesting, I was reading something about Moon having a few interesting ideas involving props. I can see him really going for it.

I don't get why people were so FREAKIN AMAZED by the sticker dunk. That's up there with dunking two balls at once or taking your shirt off for me.

Nick Young and Shannon Brown should be there instead of Howard and Moon.

They find ways to make it worse and worse every year- let's see if the trend continues!

I think Rudy Gay will win-- he can jump out of the building and has lots of power behind his dunks. As well as being very coordinated. Howard will be runner up IMO.

Part of it was Dwight Howard's delightful and likeable personality was personified with a sticker bearing Dwight's child like grin. Couple this with the creativity of showing off one's leaping ability by marking their unmatched athleticism with a sticker, and you have a dunk as memorable as Dee Brown's no look and Rider's between the legs.

Nick Young doesn't do anything for me. I also think you'll be pleasantly surprised with Jamario Moon. He can absolutely soar.

The dunk contest is about as interesting as the sci-fi channel. It was cool about 10 years ago but is pathetic these days. I think they should only let white guys in it. Think about it, if a white guy does an under the leg dunk people would go crazy, because everyone knows white guys can't jump. If a black guy does it, it's "oh cool, I have only seen that 50 times."

Who watches it? The ratings are pretty awful if I remember correctly.

I'm not one of the people that laments the fact that star players usually don't compete; I understand why that's not the best idea. The players don't excite me much though. Gay and Howard are obviously very good (in Howard's case elite) players so good for them. Obviously Green has to be invited back as the defending champ but this guy couldn't even get his fourth year option picked up by the worst team in the league! Moon is having a solid season for a rookie but a pretty unimpressive season for a 27 year old.

GOD DAMM those All-Star Jerseys are the tackiest **** i've ever seen!

And the reason the ratings are down is because only **** benchwarmers participate and even they don't care about it. Back when Dominique and MJ were competing it was awesome!

You think the ratings would go up if THIS was their lineup?

Lebron
Vince Carter
Kobe
Josh Smith
Jason Richardson
Richard Jefferson
Andre Igoudala
Dwight howard

I'd **** my pants and record and watch this thing over and over... nobody cares about scrubs in the league... make the dunk competition lineup full of stars, and *shock* watch the ratings skyrocket!
