heres the move i'd make:
Tyrus Thomas and our #1 pick in 2009 (not the current draft) for this kid:
Monta Ellis
what a little dynamo this kid is!!!
he caught my attention in the playoffs last year but i was too enamored with Baron Davis....
someone mentioned him in a post during pre-season as a canadate for the most improved player this year....
he caught my eye again @ Thanksgiving weekend when he outscored Baron and the Warriors beat Phoenix.....
i finally saw him in person the other night at the Warriors/Bulls game and he was a jitterbug during the pre-game shootaround. he played a solid game against the Bulls (but Baron once again stole the show)
but last night watching him against NJ i officially moved from liking to COVETING this kid for the Bulls.
what a talent, he's undersized like Gordon (i think the 6'3" he's listed at is a stretch) but this kid can create his own shot and drive the lane like a future superstar. he is aggressive going to the hoop. he can dunk for a small guard.
I've definately become a GSW fan now with Ellis and Davis and really don't want to see them slpit up this season-
but please go out and get this kid Mr Paxson - he will electrify the UC.

We need to get bigger. Only trades I want to see from Pax are deals that will net another lottery pick.
Other than D Rose, I really don't see this as a strong draft. Most of the top guys have limitations which will hurt them in the pros. Maybe Jordan could be good.
After the top few, I really don't see anyone that is going to change a team.

Yea we really can't bet on the whole lottery pick thing. And even then, nobody is going to trade for any of our players and give up a potential winning lottery pick. Miami wouldn't give up theirs for Deng, Minnesota wouldn't give up theirs for Gordon, etc.
So we're SOL when it comes to that. And we can't tank on our own because we're not passing any of the bottom 6 teams.
Deadline will be interesting, but somethins got to happen. There are plenty of minor deals that can help us in terms of contribution, and depending on availability theres a couple of major ones that could please us.

i'd rather he continue to assess this season, unless the blockbuster deal that favors the bulls materialize. there's more movement in the offseason, and he'll have a better idea of everyone's situation, post-postseason.
i'd rather he not make a (lateral and/or hasty) move to appease a hungry, impatient fan base.
the playoffs are a good thing all around (assuming they make it);, regardless of the round the team is eliminated in.

i agree about getting bigger and i agree Gordon and Ellis are VERY comprable but Ellis seems to handle the ball better, drive the lane and get to the FT line more.
I just don't see the Bulls keeping Gordon so I'd like to see a Thabo(defneder)/Ellis)playmeker) backcourt now with $$$ open for a big time FA, established scorer next summer like Arenas, Brand, Maggette, Jamison or Iggy.
so before the deadline now I'm lookign for an under the radar move from Paxson for a playmaking guard that is making peanuts now. Ellis fits that bill.
as does Dhantay Jones who is 6'6" and riding the bench and could probably be had for cheap.
(and i'm keeping in mind that Derrick Rose who is the coveted PG of the upcoming draft is also only 6'3" supposing the Bulls somehow won he lottery....)
seriously, just watch this Ellis kid play, he's very exciting.

mayo can easily fall to us at 9 or 10
or let BG exit and sign Iggy
either way we need a bonafide big and guard to build around.
The Bulls currently have no cornerstones only a bunch of scrappy role players.
I have no thought that Mayo is anything close to a franchise cornerstone. Given that lots of people are starting to agree, that's why he would be available at 9 or 10.
The Bulls can't sign Iggy, who isn't much more than a role player himself.
Let's be honest here, the Bulls are hosed. There is no white knight that is going to come in and save the team.

robg wrote:Ok i like everyone, likes to talk about possible trades, but lets just be realistic here for a little (very little). I will pose the question; do you think the bulls will actually make a trade before the deadline is up? Will it be a minor trade or major trade cause i honestly believe pax will make absolutely no moves.
Again: do you think pax will make any trades at all?
Its harder to guess who for, so lets not go there. But who do you think from the bulls will definitely be gone?
It sounds like, from rumors at least, that TT & thabo will be on the top of the list. I think Doug T. had the best reasons as to why pax will not make any moves until the off season. There aren't any moves pax can make to get us into the finals so why not just watch & evaluate our young guys? Lets get some 10 day contracts up here! or is it to late? either way im ready for the youth movement.![]()

I agree with the thought that we need to see the youth play. My question is how trading TT and Thabo is a youth movement? Need to get rid of Wallace, Du and one of the big three before any true "movement" starts.

Cliff Levingston doesn't think Pax will do anything major. For one, there don't seem to be any all-star talent realistically available. Gasol is the most obvious one, but teams usually don't trade all-stars unless they're all but forced to, and Memphis isn't even close to that (ICLO).
- It's hard to imagine that he's not shopping Wallace, but at the same time, it's hard to imagine someone else taking him on for a package that benefits us.
- He seems too in love with Chapu to trade him, not to mention the BYC status complicates thing.
- He won't trade Deng or Gordon before he confirms that he can't agree to reasonable long-term deals with them.
- He won't trade Hinrich who he seems in love with, not to mention the BYC status.
- He won't trade his "Center of the future."
- He's said Tyrus isn't on the block and just needs time.
- He probably won't trade Thabo given his play of late and desire for size in the back court.
- He won't trade Gray cause he has more value to us than what anyone else would offer.
- He probably won't trade Joe Smith either given his play and reasonable contract.
- Cliff Levingston can't see him trading Griff either considering the "leadership" he's brought to the team this season.
That basically leaves Duhon, Khryapa, Nichols, Curry and our pick. Not too much to work with.

They are only hosed if the roster isn't good. I think the roster is good. I'm not in any hurry to make many trades other than to figure out a way to dump Wallace and combine Chapu and Duhon in an asset consolidation for a role player.
And I don't think either of those will happen.
In my opinion there is a white knight that can save the Bulls. Its kinda like Voltron.
It consists of Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas, Joe Smith, Thabo Sefolosha and Joakim Noah coming together and playing to their level of ability.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

might want to start thinking about a move soon because here's a sign things are starting to thin out at the UC-
1/2 price tix for 5 of the next 6 Bulls games?

I don't dispute that. My comment was more in line discussing with theagent the possibility of magically acquiring an elite player in the next 7 months or so.
.....
Getting back to your point here and in other threads: I personally think that if that group of players was handled and coached properly with the express goal of winning, I think they could do quite well.
I don't have a lot of confidence that is going to happen because:
- The Wallace politics being discussed in another thread
- The contracts of Gordon and Deng combined with the unwillingness to go one penny over the lux tax barrier.
- The unwillingness of the organization to hire real coaches. Rein$dorf seems to think because he was able to pluck Phil out of thin air in the early 90's, he can do it again.
There are just too many barriers being put up internally.
