To win 47 and 48 games with the injuries and roster he's had is simply amazing. The front office tried to tank and Thibodeau not only gets them to the playoffs but wins a series with a team sick and throwing up on the bench.
Under Thibs..
Rose was the league MVP
Noah became the DPOY and all star
Deng was a back to back all star
Jimmy all NBA defense and will be an all star this year
Taj becomes runner up for 6th MOY and he develops a post game, an offensive game and becomes one of the leagues best defenders.
He made JL3, Nate Robinson, DJ Augustin all millions of dollars when it looked like their NBA careers were over.
He turned Kyle Korver into a good team defender and a smarter player. Things he learned here show up everyday in his game.
This season, Pau will get back to the all star game.
This season he has navigated a listless team with it's two best players coming off major surgeries, being on minutes limits, many other injuries to key players, to a 27-14 record . He's using his bench, exploring different lineups, opening up the offense more. He seems to be developing Niko very well and making his transition a good one.
Terrible? no. Can he do some things better? Of course.
For some, objective analysis means being a contrarian to obvious facts. As you listed, look at Deng now in Miami. He is healthier, playing less minutes and next to two all-stars. He is nowhere in the conversation for an all-star.
Popovich basically lost another ring for his franchise with a dumb decision and has been kicked out early in the playoffs multiple times. As you said, Thibs is human and can improve in a lot of things. But, to say he is terrible is a terribly bad analysis.
It looks like people are in a hurry to find the next Tim Floyd (Fred Hoiberg).
