RIP.

Too many young ex-NBA players die... The question is: Is it time to change the league's drug policy? Despite how important athleticism is in the game of basketball and how important for the business is to present the best show possible, we haven't found any significant doping scandal in the NBA. I think that is very strange.

We should start taking care of our athletes now.

Yeah this is all hitting a little too close to home, I'm one year behind you and my bro-in-law is your age. He texted me last week about Anthony Mason.

Time to quit fooling around & get back in shape.

Sam Smith taking a little creative license or not:

Jack wasn’t active in the playoffs, but did play one crucial role. After the two losses in Seattle in the Finals, Rodman decided he didn’t want to play anymore and wasn’t going to Game 6 back home. Jack, who was among the few Rodman trusted, persuaded Rodman it would be a good party afterward. So Dennis decided to go. The Bulls won 87-75 as Rodman had 19 rebounds, 11 offensive with five assists and nine points. Seattle coach George Karl always has said his team would have won the series if not for Rodman, whom Karl said won two games basically on his own.

Anthony Mason and Jack's deaths weren't drug related; Mase was almost 4 bills at one point and suffered heart faliure and Jack had heart disease, and Jerome Kersey died from a blood clot. I'll give you Roy Tarpley as he had a drug problem. While I think cocaine use was extremely high in the 80's; I think marijuana use is more prevalent than cocaine or any other drug in today's NBA.

I actually thought he meant doping as PEDs, HGHs and the like.

Exactly. Anyway, you never know why a heart's failure emerges. Some of those deaths might be the consecuence of years of abuse of harmful substances.

Unluckily, when you start abusing drugs like to improve your performance, sometimes you end up by using other kinds of drugs after your professional career. For example Marco Pantani and José María Jiménez (great cyclists, too good to be true sometimes) both past away after their retirements because of a heart failure caused by an overdose of cocaine.

We all know that there are doping in the NBA. That's human nature. It's too tempting to use those substances when you know controls aren't the way they should be. And using them can make you sign a great contract.

I knew Jack and his family pretty well growing up...he was an incredibly nice guy, beautiful wife and kids (although I believe they recently divorced). He took me to meet Rodman twice and also brought me into the the Clippers lockeroom after a game to meet Pooh Richardson when he was with the Nets.

If you're ever in Seal Beach, CA...go to Captain Jacks restaurant. It's owned by the Haley family (run by his brother Tim) and has the best prime rib and crab legs around. His dad opened it and was a legend in the area as one of the first ever pro surfers. His sister was a press secretary for the first Bush administration. Incredibly interesting, great family.

Such a shame, he was way too young and a truly great guy. RIP

A little late to the thread here. Haven't posted here in a long time, but I heard the news and it brought me back. RIP Friend. Way too young.

I thought this was some kind of joke... say it ain't so.

I measure my timelines in a lot of ways with the Bulls run of the 90's now... I'm 36 now, and Mr. Haley was 15 years older... that would mean the year 2000 subtracting his age from mine, 2 years after the last Bulls Championship, which of course seems likes yesterday, but of course, they all seem like yesterday.
