OKC Thunder: I am including what I was planning on doing during 2015 (my team tanked so high lotto pick for me!) because it shows what I was building for

HOLIDAY | MORROW | HAYWARD | BOSH | EMBIID | HENSON | MILLS | PORTER | STOUDEMIRE

Future Core: Holiday/Hayward/Porter/Saric/Embiid/Henson

Head Coach
Erik Spoelstra

Depth Descriptions (work in progress)
PG
Jrue Holiday:A young defensive floor general who can hit his shots and run the offense.
Patty Mills: A solid shooter who knows how to play in the system and has veteran championship experience.
Kirk Hinrich: A grind&gritty floor general who dribbles out the shot clock and puts up some awful clanking bricks. However, he seems to hit his shots better when he plays limited minutes with rest so as a 5th guard he might not be too bad as a defensive body to throw out on the floor.
SG
Anthony Morrow: A good shooting journeyman who can hit the 3pt shot at a high volume on a consistent basis.
Et'wuan Moore: A young combo guard who can do a little bit of everything decently.
Allen Crabbe: Young prospect shooting guard who has a really nice & deep shooting stroke with the potential to be a good defender. He moves well off the ball but can't create well on offense so his ceiling can be a very nice 3/d guard if he can finetune his defensive fundementals.
SF
Gordon Hayward/Otto Porter/Michael Beasley
PF:John Henson/Dario Saric/ STAT
C: Chris Bosh/Joel Embiid/Greg Smith

Depth Chart 2016
PG:Jrue Holiday/Patty Mills/Et'wuan Moore/ Kirk Hinrich
SG:Anthony Morrow/2015 draft pick/ Allen Crabbe
SF:Gordon Hayward/Otto Porter/Michael Beasley
PF:Chris Bosh/Dario Saric/STAT
C: Joel Embiid/John Henson

Ideal Minute Distribution 2016
PG: Jrue (34) | Patty (14)
SG: Morrow (20) | Hayward (20) | 2015 draft pick (8)
SF: Hayward (13) | Porter (25) | Saric (10) | Beasley (0)
PF: Bosh (33) | Saric (15) |
C: Embiid (30) | John Henson (18)

Current Team Direction
The teams in the NBA that have the most sustained success either have A) multiple HOF or B) top caliber players with a solid core to grow with. I wanted to build a team that would be competitive currently, but have a core that could keep contending into the future. Thus, for current contention, I have a big 3 of Jrue/Hayward/Bosh to lead the team along with solid young players with room to grow with the core (Jrue/ Hayward/ Porter/ Saric/ Embiid) for a future big 3 of hayward/saric/embiid.

2015: This year, the team plans on being in contention however multiple factors have to go in the right direction to hit the jackpot. Embiid is goinig to be coming off the bench to allow him to ease into the NBA and develop proper habits along with learn from Amare. Similarly this is a development year for Otto. His rookie year he showed flashes but this year he has improved his play. I expect him to take another leap in year 3.
Offensively, there is a lot of firepower through jrue/hayward/bosh with a solid SG shooter (morrow) and a clean up big man in the mold of chandler (henson). Off the bench scoring is provided by amare, patty, developing embiid and spot minutes from beasley. All spots on the floor will be covered by competent players (high post/mid post/low post/corners/wings) so that no one on the opposite team can cheat off a player.
Defensively, There is only one bad defender in my rotation (amare) and only 1 "weak" defender in morrow. Amare's defensive deficiencies can be covered up by my team considering the rest of the big rotation (bosh/henson/embiid) are all very good defenders. Morrow isn't a liability but he will be covering the 3rd best option after hayward/otto and Jrue.
Coaching System
My roster should fit very well into Spoelstra's system since he has already worked with Bosh, a scoring SF (lebron-> hayward) and defensive guards. There will always be atleast 4 players capable of hitting the 3 point shot in my lineup thus spacing should never be a problem. All the players in my rotation are team players (no ball stoppers) so the ball shouldn't stick. Defensively, this team should be better than the miami era teams since the only downgrade in defense comes from lebron-> hayward. I have two very good rim blockers in Embiid+Henson, and P&R defense should be killer with Jrue+bosh.
Drawbacks
This year the drawback has to be health/ inexperience. Chris bosh is coming off of blood clots in the lung so he may be in and out of the lineup trying to get into in game form. I am very optimistic in Embiid but if there are any setbacks with his recovery, he might be out also. Since this is the first time these players will be playing with each other, there will be some times where inexperience comes into play causing inconsistency. The team play might be rocky at first (ie 2011 miami) but they are young enough to have time to jell.
This is why I made sure my picks for the next two years were lotto protected. If this start trending south, the key players can be rested to tank in order to pick up another big piece or two for the core from a top pick in the lotto.

2016: DRAFT: I received a high lotto pick due to injuries and inconsistent lineups. With it I select the best talent available at that position. If similar caliber players are available at different positions, I would choose a solid shooting combo guard that could eventually replace morrow or come off the bench as a super 6th man (manu) role.
This year i'm expecting the full emergence of my team (ie 2011 bulls). After a year to play together and a year for Embiid to get experience, I expect him to take off making this team dominant defensively and lethal offensively. Saric will be the X-factor as a combo guard off the bench (think of what Niko is doing now). My lineup of Jrue/Hayward/Saric/Bosh/Embiid will be lethal both offensively and defensively.

Future Team Direction
My core is already locked up for the most part until 2018. At that time, my players average age will be 28, pretty much all will be in their prime, having played together for a few years for experience with high caliber vets in bosh, mills, morrow. I'm assuming they make a jump like GSW did this year. Bosh's game will decline very gradually like Dirk so he will be a good 6th man for years to come. As Morrow/Mills/ Hinrich decline, moore/2015 draft pick/crabbe can pick up the slack. Similarly with Bosh & STAT replaced by saric/henson.

Even past that, in 2020 I could put out a lineup of Jrue/Hayward/Porter/Saric/Embiid with Henson off the bench and the average age would still be 28 of that 6 man group. 2025: 33 average age but solid role players around that and they will still be going strong. *** remember this wasn't even factoring in the high lotto pick

This team could potentially contend for 10+ years if all the cards land right. Obviously this depends on the core being resigned, but if they have been playing together that many years, they will have picked up a couple titles atleast which is good motivation to resign.

Indiana Pacers

PG - Darren Collison (27 years old)
SG - Klay Thompson (25)
SF - Luol Deng (29)
PF - Derrick Favors (23)
C - Roy Hibbert (28)
-------------------------------
Terrence Ross (24)
Mike Scott (26)
Grievis Vasquez (28)
Kevin Martin (32)
Ersan Ilyasova (27)
Kosta Koufos (26)

I'll update this with all the contracts and breakdown in that regard after I find the roster page again.

While this team has been built to be competitive from the get-go, the future was always heavily considered and is reflective in the roster and preservation of assets. In terms of the future spanning the next few years, this group is built for sustained success with the existing core (note that almost all players are only just starting to hit their prime ages, so there's not going to be any declining core pieces for years to come).

The main pillars of the roster in the long term are obviously Thompson and Favors, two young stars of the game who are still refining their games and easing into their peak as the future of the franchise. Favors, originally considered an athletic defender/rebounder, has improved drastically with each passing season, going from 14 to 16 and now 19ppg (per36). Considering he is only still 23, we're looking at a 20ppg threat at peak here. of course, Klay is a Top 2 SG in the game right now, and has also shown incredible season to season improvement in his game, rising from a 19ppg scorer to 24ppg all whist improving his efficiency, not to mention his remarkable improvement from defensive liability to lock-down defender. These are two young guys with proven work ethic, the sky is the limit.

The other key 'future' piece is Terrence Ross, the young, athletic 3 and D forward, who looks to take over Deng's starting role down the line. Ross has teased his ability with the Raps, dropping 52 points in one game, but inconsistency has fallen between him and stardom playing in a small and inconsistent offensive role on a stacked Raptors roster. Here, Ross has a focused role for several seasons under the tutelage of Deng to find his niche and harness his elite shooting and athleticism, and will eventually be let loose in his prime years as the 3rd core member.

It's impossible to make concrete claims as to the teams direction beyond the next few seasons, but the roster is built with flexibility in mind. Favors and Thompson are locked into long-term deals, arguably both below market value considering the upcoming cap increase at 11 and 17 million /per respectively. The 'older' are locked in few a few years, but not excessively long, allowing multiple avenues to be taken. If the team is playing at a championship level, this means the entire group can be preserved for multiple runs into the future before re-tooling. Alternatively, these players are in their prime and hold good trade value on affordable contracts, meaning they are easily packagable, possibly with all the picks retained, for a big move such as a star player or high draft pick depending on the situation. In the case of the former, it also allows the contracts to expire down the line, creating big cap room for max free agents as well as the extension of Terrence Ross.

As noted, none of my picks were traded with the goal of short term success, so there's plenty of talent coming in. As mentioned above, they can be used in deals to bring in an additional star player to the roster, but if used, they present a great way to maintain the league-best depth on the roster and possibly bring in a core piece or two.

----

This team has long-term success written all over it. While draft picks and unknown but hyped-up young rookies and other young talent can be a big draw, how many of these guys end up busts or underwhelm relative to their expectations? I think that will be an important question to ask when looking at these future rosters, because all too often we get caught up in the dreams of theoretical player ceilings. This Pacers team has two, young, two-way star players; concrete talent to build a franchise upon. With Ross coming through the ranks and an asset-heavy roster and pick situation, the Pacers are primed to re-tool after this current contending phase and continue the franchise success well into the future.

Shouldnt we do a quick draft for 2015 first?

copy and paste from initial write up. Will try and make it back on to update.
Grizz shoulda won 2015, but we had few votes. I stand by this team and think they'd win in 2016. and then 2017 and on we'd see some of the young pups emerge just as Pau and Z Bo decline and Eric Gordon leaves via free agency. Tomas Satoransky would be a huge part of our future plan too.
And I'd try and pick up a nice young PG in 2015 draft.

more soon.

Financial Outlook

Once Eric Gordon’s contract ends, we’ll be able to afford to bring over Satoransky if he is still turning down his rookie deal. If he accepts a rookie contract he’ll come over in 2016. Pau will be moved to first big off the bench if he starts to decline in a couple of years as long as one of the Plumlees are ready. And Z Bo will continue to score efficiently for the length of his contract.

Head Coach
Former Player, player’s coach and defensive minded Kevin McHale
From hot seat to coach of the year candidate. The Rockets’ roster saw a ton of change in the offseason and through this season and McHale rolled with every change, playing without Dwight Howard for much of the season. Players love him. And with a shakeup like the one that would come with a BAT, these specific players with these specific personalities will buy in early. McHale is straight-forward and honest and tough, but balances that with a brotherly love that comes with being a former player. His Rockets have improved their team defense a great deal and I believe that he’ll get the most out of this roster. I had planned to sign an assistant head coach as well, but Simon nixed this idea. Even without one, McHale, to me, is the right coach for this mix of players.

Starting Point Guard
Speedy, 27 year old 5’11” Ty Lawson
Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFsCSNgJnlk
18.9 PER, 15.5 pts, 9.7 asts, 3.2 rbs, 1.3 stls, 43.9% fg, 34.6% 3pt
#3 most asts, #49 WAR

Ty, the MOST UNDERRATED Point Guard in the league, is silently putting together a career year in 2015, averaging the third most assists per game with one of the highest WAR ratings amongst pgs. Lawson is second in assist opportunities per game at 19.8 and third in points created by assist per game while being high up there in assists to free throw occurences. He can push the ball up the court and ignite a fast break alongside Durant, Gordon, CJ, Dudley, Lin and the Plumlees or he can work it in to Z Bo and Pau so they can do their thing.

Starting Shooting Guard
3nD versatile veteran, 29 year old 6’7” Jared Dudley
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85qHRTFpzjU
12.6 PER, 7.4 pts, 3.1 rbs, 1.8 asts, 46.9% fg, 39.9 3pt
#18 best 3 pt%, #48 DRPM, #56 WAR

Dudley is the 1st player in NBA History to shoot 100% from the field with atleast 10 field goals and at least 3 three pointers. The definition of versatility and flexibility, he has started games at the 1-4 position and has guarded all four as well. When defending guards, he is like a cornerback, responding to teammates calls while navigating screens and doing his best to win individual battles on the perimeter. When he guards at the 4 spot, he is like a linebacker, calling out pick and roll coverages and rotating into help positions. He is a constant communicator and will be a major glue guy for this squad.

Superstar Small Forward
Top 2 player and 2014 NBA MVP, 26 year old 6’9” Kevin Durant
Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhq0EAl9Pu4
27,72 PER, 25.4 pts, 6.6 rbs, 4.1 asts, 0.9 stls, 0.9 blks, 51% fg, 40.3 3pt
#4 most pts, #17 best 3 pt%, #132 DRPM, #76 WAR

Durant is one of the best pure scorers in league history and at 26 years old he has a TON of prime years left!. He can get the ball in the hoop in a variety of ways and will be our #1 option. He can get to the line, shoot threes, post up, pick and roll with Lawson, he. makes. buckets. And lots of them. And efficiently. And Durant is a + defender to boot! If I seem geeked to have landed Durant (despite injury issues this year), its because I am SO geeked. If the approach to this BAT is to go back through 2015, know that this team would hold him out for much much longer to ensure he is 100% in the later part of the season. They rushed him back.

Starting Power Forward
Automatic post scorer, 33 year old 6’9” Zach Randolph
Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q17OanoElPg
19.88 PER, 16.5 pts, 11 rbs, 2.1 asts, 1 stl, 48.7% fg, 40% 3pt
#32 most pts, #37 DRPM, #26 WAR

While only 6’9”, his freakishly long wingspan, wide frame, lunch pail approach and nifty footwork have helped him develop a near automatic post game. He is a double double machine. And, along with Pau, is a skilled passer out of the post. He can score from right below the basket all the way to 19 feet out, even shooting a solid 40% from three point land when he sends up the rare long bomb. He is a defensive liability at first glance, but his long arms have led to him ranking high in Defensive RPM. That said, the starting big guys are slower and older than I’d like, so we’ll rotate Mason in for Pau early on and then slide Mason to PF with Pau coming back in at C. These three will rotate in such a way that the quicker footed Mason (or Miles) will almost always be on the court.

Starting Center
NBA Champion veteran post player, 34 year old 7’0” Pau Gasol
Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRc1TwbaRAk
22.65 PER, 18.4 pts, 11.9 rbs, 2.7 asts, 1.9 blks, 49.5 fg, 52.4% 3pt
#1 in double doubles (47), #4 most rbs, #7 most blocks, #20 most pts, #104 DRPM, #45 WAR

DOUBLE DOUBLE MACHINE! And amongst the top of the league in 3 categories (rbs, blks, pts) He may be 34, but he’s still got some solid years left in him. His size and length make up for his slowish speed. First bull to score 46 points with 18 rebounds since Michael Jordan. He is a leader and has championship experience. Durant and Pau will provide a calm presence to keep the locker room’s eyes on the prize. he’ll be the first big subbed out so that the quicker footed Plumlees can come in and provide stronger defense, but Pau will come back in once Z Bo needs rest. Between Z Bo and Pau, we’ve got two automatic post scorers who can score on every other attempt and eat up boards.

First Guard off the bench
High % Marksman, 26 year old 6’4” Eric Gordon
12.84 PER, 13.4 pts, 2.8 rbs, 3.9 asts, 0.9 stls, 40.9% fg, 45.1% 3pt
#3 best 3 pt%, #159 WAR

Eric Gordon is enjoying one of the best shooting seasons of his career after finally starting a season healthy. He is prolific and has got fantastic shooting mechanics and with the way the rest of the offense will flow, we should see plenty of open looks for Eric Gordon when he comes in to spell Dudley with the starting group and when he stays on with some of the second unit. Lawson and Lin will find plenty of opportunities to dish to Gordon for a three. He is one of our biggest defensive liabilities so we are starting Dudley over him and bringing him off the bench alongside Mason. We’ll have to hide him a bit. But I am hopeful that McHale is able to coach up this entire squad when it comes to defense, much like he has with James Harden - who was once viewed as one of the worst perimeter defenders in the league.

First Post Player off the bench
Athletic and promising big man, 25 year old 6’11” Mason Plumlee
18.87 PER, 9.6 pts, 6.5 rbs, 0.9 asts and blks, 0.8 stls, 58.3% fg
#116 WAR
Bathed in the mentoring waters of Kevin Garnett and after spending time with Team USA, Mason is a post player on the rise and is learning team play more and more. He defends well against power forwards but even better against centers. Zach Lowe called him “Tyson Chandler lite” at one point this season. He is a tough kid and is willing to get in there and scrap for the team. He’ll be the first big off the bench, rotating in to play with Z Bo and then with Pau with his brother available as the 4th big. We’ll be looking to Mason to lead our post defense and grow into a future starter.

backup Point Guard
High BBall IQ, 26 year old 6’3” Jeremy Lin
16.02 PER, 11.1 pts, 2.6 rbs, 4.7 asts, 1.2 stls, 43.3% fg, 36.9% 3pt
#29 most asts, #95 WAR

Veteran 3nD Wing 28 year old 6’6” C.J Miles
12.91 PER, 12.4 pts, 2.9 rbs, 1.1 asts, 38.2% fg, 32.5% 3pt
#87 DRPM, #88 WAR

4th Big 26 year old 6’11” Miles Plumlee
13.11 PER, 4.1 pts, 4.7 rbs, 1 blk, 53.5% fg
#102 DRPM, #186 WAR

The Future
Tomas Satoransky - 6’7” 23 year old STUD Euro Guard, athletic, tall, above average defense, would be over in the league already if the Wiz were willing to pay more. Likely over in 2016 for MLE or 2017 at the very latest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qibO0RYlAoQ

The Rest - Duplicates of each other, cause one of each of these pairs will work out.
Gary Harris 20 y o 6’4” Combo Guard - Solid defensive presence and solid shooter, promise
Ray McCallum 23 y o 6’3” Combo Guard - Solid off the ball scoring guard
Joffrey Lauvergne 23 y o 6’11” Stretch Forward - recent Euro import
Davis Bertans 22 y o 6’10” Stretch Forward - future Euro import, expected over in 2017, sweet shooting and promising defense

Early on it was said:

“I agree that the defense is lacking, but I'm presuming from his statement above that he plans to trade Gordon for a perimeter stopper, which would balance out the smalls. Lawson isn't a great PG defender but stopping elite PGs is more about team defense anyway. The PNR/PNP is going to be an issue with such immobile bigs, but there aren't many stretch 4s who can avoid getting punished by ZR in the post, so assuming the opposition goes with 2 traditional bigs they may be able to cramp up the spacing with a dropback style. Speedy ball handlers will hurt them, but the offense will put up numbers due to it's versatility, and they could be a Clippers style 112 ORTG/105 DRTG type team and win games that way.” I think it was Austin Carr who said this?

I believe that I have addressed the defensive shortcomings a bit with Dudley, CJ, and the Plumlees. And some of these players rank surprisingly higher on the D RPM than I thought they would. Defensively, the focus will be on team defense.
Offensively, this is the most versatile offense in the BAT. Durant as a first option, Z Bo and Pau as options 2 and 3 in the paint. A little PnR with Lawson and Durant or Lawson/Lin with the Plumlees when they are in. Durant, Dudley, and Gordon all provide a strong three point shooting presence.

This team is built to win in year 1. And with some late moves and with some of the best players still having plenty of prime years left, this team can also win in years 2-5 (and on).

Philadelphia 76ers

Bottom Line

If this was being written after last season, this team would be hands down the favorite for having the best future. Love was coming off his best season, before being sucked into the black hole that is a big playing with Lebron and another ball dominant guard (see what happened to Bosh). Love went from an all-around offensive weapon to mainly a stretch 4, and little else.

But Love's still the same player he was a year ago, and is only 26 years old. He's a top tier PF in the game, on the same level as Aldridge and Griffin, well more impactful than the next tier of guys. He goes inside and out, gets volume boards, passes very well and and even defends decently. Look at what Kaminsky did in the Tourney - he's a poor man's Love.

You have Dragic, a somewhat smaller, more "point-guardy" version of Manu. He's only 28, without a lot of wear, and should be very good for a while.

You have Oladipo, who you've seen wreck the bulls and whose play reminds me a lot of Mitch Richmond, though with Dipo's shot still developing (he's still younger than Mitch was as a rook). He's only 22.

You have Harrison Barnes, who compares a lot to Shane Battier - not an alpha player, but a great glue guy who defends, hits threes (deadly if left alone), plays smart, rebounds, can even create a little. He's also only 22.

At center you have a two headed monster of Mozgov and Ajinca. Mozgov is the bruiser who is still surprisingly athletic. A taller version of Marcin Gortat who is still developing his Bball IQ. Ajinca is the more finesse guy, though he's virtually identical in size and athleticism to Rudy Gobert, but only recently put on enough weight to handle C in the NBA. Like Mozgov, his Bball IQ needs a little bit of work, although he's shown great growth there. If he was more naturally aggressive, like Moazgov, he'd be an elite talent, but he's not - reminding me of the super talented but not quite aggressive enough Nenad Kristic. Mozgov's 28, Ajinca is 26, both don't have much wear and will be around a long time.

The bench is superb.

At PG, you have one of the top 2 or 3 "future" prospects for PG currently in the NBA (beyond a Lilliard who already established himself), maybe the top guy, in Dennis Schroder. Schroder plays like a lot like the guy he backs up, Jeff Teague, but has a more natural handle and basketball IQ. He's putting up strong number and is only 21 years old.

Tony Snell gets a lot of criticism here. Yeah, his bball IQ wasn't what we hoped. But this season, he's shown that he's a fine "worst starter" as a 3 and D guy. More than that, he's also shown potential to be more, showing off some passing and ball handling skills. He reminds me of Nic Batum a lot, and while he's not there yet, he'll get there. He's got time - he's only 23.

If Snell isn't to your liking, there's the pit-bull Solomon Hill, a 24 year old who Coach Frank Vogel thinks the world of as a defensive "safety blanket" the way Jimmy was for the Bulls a season ago. Hill is also an aggressive slasher who, while not good from 3, isn't afraid of the shot and is improving (.324 this season on good volume, up from .3 season before).

For the bigs, there two young guys and one guy just in his prime.

The grey-beard is 28 year old Josh McRoberts - a poor man's Laettner in that he'll do anything to win. But he has a much better 3 (think the F/C version of Robert Horry - I'll call him big shot McBob). He claws and scratches, boards, passes, slashes, is very athletic for his size, can shoot from range and even give you a little bit in the post. Yeah, he doesn't create much and he's not an interior defender - I don't need him for that backup up Love and playing as a stretch center for certain matchups (against defensive bigs who aren't big enough threats on offense to abuse him).

But the young guys are just as exciting. There's a do-it-all F/C in 6'10 Kyle O'Quinn, who isn't an elite talent but is a physical, tough player who does everything you want from a big and more - boards, defends, blocks shots, passes well, gives you some power in the post, even shoots from 3. He's only 24.

Then you go to the big-time talent of Perry Jones III, who gets played out of position by terrible coach Scott Brooks. Jones is a 23 year old, 6'11, 240 lb PF who is athletic enough to play some 3 (He's more athletic than Mirotic, for example) - but he's not really a SF, and playing him there exposes his weak handle and lack of advantages (except size) at the wing. At the 4, most opposing PFs can't keep up, can't play him to the 3 pt line, and he's big enough to defend. His issue is commitment to the game - but playing him at his best position should help.

And back to the back-court, you have two great "instant offense" combo guard reserves in 26 year old Jerryd Bayless and 24 year old Shelvin Mack. Bayless has been around for a long time, and taken a while to develop, but has becomes a slightly poor man's Lou Williams. Mack is similar, but hasn't been around nearly as long and may surpass Bayless quickly - he also has more basic "backup PG" skills and could easily become a Jarrett Jack type.

This team is going to get better each of the next 5 years, with only Dragic really having any significant possibility of starting to decline - and that would be fine with Schroder needs more minutes, and moving Dragic to a super 6th man role.

The salary situation is find because of all the young guys and not too many guys to resign, extend. 4 years from now, you'd probably see a depth chart of:

PG: Schroder 25y/o , Dragic 32, Mack 28/Bayless 30
SG: Oladipo 26y/o, (Dragic), Snell 27, Mack/Bayless)
SF: Barnes 26y/o, Hill 28, Snell
PF: Love 30 y/o, Jones 27 (if he develops being focused at his best position), McBob 32, O'Quinn
CC: Mozgov 32 y/o, Ajinca 30, O'Quinn 28, McBob

Would anyone want to play that team? With that amount of versatility, shooting, athleticism, size, skill, toughness?

Head Coach / Evaluation

Terry Stotts

Coach Stotts has had proven success on offense and defense. Stotts,is recognized as a key architect of the Mavericks championship offense of 2010-2011; his "stretch 4" based offenses are perfect for my roster. On defense, the current Blazers are tied with Chicago for 6th best in opposing FG% at .438 (3rd best in the West behind GS and OKC; better than Memphis with Gasol, Tony Allen, etc.); this despite having no real "superstars" on the defensive end and having parts of the season without Lopez, Aldridge, Batum and Matthews.

Most importantly for my team is his ability to develop and guide young players - not just Aldridge and Lilliard, but the development of very raw Meyers Leonard, CJ McCullom, and improvements in Robin Lopez and even Chris Kaman.

Head coach: Dave Joerger-He was the head coach of the Dakota Wizards from 2000–2004 and 2006–2007 in the International Basketball Association, Continental Basketball Association, and the NBA Development League, winning championships in 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2007. He also coached the Sioux Falls Skyforce from 2004–2006, winning a championship in 2005.
He has won everywhere hes ever been. He has the grizzlies team currently second place in the west and as championship contenders. If Zach Randolph doesn’t get suspended last year who knows what happens. Hes also only 41 and will grow with my players

My young core of Knight/Wiggins/Giannis/Kanter/Adams/Harris all fit together well. They provide excellent defense on both the perimeter (wiggins/giannis is elite) and inside (adams). We will use our high draft pick this year to get another defensive big to develop (Cauley-stein) or a point guard/sg (Deangelo Russell). We also have Philly's 1st rounder this year which will be used to plug that other hole.

We will hope that Giannis and wiggins reach their superstar potential. There is little reason to believe they wont get close to it. At worst Giannis will develop into a rich mans Loul Deng with better defense and better playmaking. Wiggins will become a top 15 player at worst. If they both reach their potential this a championship contender year in and year out.

We hope for marginal improvements from other guys that have already shown theyre solid nba players. Harris, Kanter, Knight, and Adams can all become allstars. Harris and Knight probably the most likely. Knight will quickly be in that Conley, Teague PG group if he isn't already. Harris is only 22 and is a solid 3/stretch 4 who has shown big time ability. Adams is a young guy who only played one year of college and is already making contributions on a champion contender. He will be one of the best 2 way centers in the league for years to come. Kanter can score in the post.

We will extend Knight, Harris and Kanter. Hopefully all around the 10-15 million area. We will have time to wait on everyone else. If a superstar becomes available we can offer up first rounders and young talent in a trade.

Were waiting to see if Randle/Leonard can become players. If either of them do, great.

The potential and flexibility--cap space, time to wait and see on contracts, draft picks, trade assets--is unmatched in this league.

Theres enough here to win a championship without leonard/randle/napier or any draft picks panning out. If those things do happen were talking about a potential multiple championship team.

Golden State Warriors

Head Coach: George Karl

Depth Chart (AGE)
PG: Ricky Rubio (24)/Trey Burke (22)/Andre Miller (38)
SG: Bradley Beal (21)/Iman Shumpert (24)/Jason Terry (37)
SF: Jabari Parker (20)/Al-Farouq Aminu (24)/Vince Carter (38)
PF: Blake Griffin (26)/Tristan Thompson (23)/Glen Davis (29)
C: Robin Lopez (26)/Henry Sims (24)/Kendrick Perkins (30)

Introduction
The Golden State Warriors had a tough first round playoffs exit this season, but the future is already looking bright for them. My core 10 players have an average age of 23 who have already established themselves as players who can produce on the court, and will continue to get better year by year. None of my core 10 players have reached their prime/peak, I can only imagine how good they can be in the future. My starters consist of Rubio, Beal, Parker, Griffin, and Lopez while my second unit consists of Burke, Shumpert, Aminu, Thompson, and Sims this season.

Starters
Specifically, my goal is to keep my BIG 3 in Beal (superstar in the making), Parker (future superstar), and Griffin (superstar already) in a Warriors uniform forever as they will be a big part of my future. The BIG 3 of Beal, Parker, and Griffin should be considered the best in the NBA in the future. Beal is only 21 years old, and has shown he can ball when it comes to the playoffs by creating his own shot or making a mid-range/three successfully. Beal has a guaranteed contract of 5 million or so next season. I hope he can have a big season next year to prove that he is worthy of a max contract. With a spike in cap space in 2016/2017 season, Beal will likely get his max contact. Jabari Parker is only 20 years old, and has already shown flashes of becoming a superstar with his ability to score/defend. Jabari Parker is already locked up in a friendly rookie contract until 2018-2019 season so that’s great news for the Warriors in terms of cap space. Blake Griffin is 26 years old and has yet to reach his peak. He has already elevated his game to be one of the best power forwards in the game by expanding his game from the post to mid-range shot. He has improved on defense as well from when he was a rookie. He has a max deal for the next 3 seasons, which he deserves. I believe my team can keep Beal, Parker, and Griffin for a long time in Cali especially with the cap space spike and rookie friendly contract with Parker.

Rubio and Lopez are my other two starters to round my five. Rubio has signed a 4 year contract extension this past season so he will be with the Warriors for a while. Lopez will be a free agent this season, and my goal is to resign him. I just love his work ethic and his defensive swag lol. He makes around 5 million, and I’m willing to give him around 7-8 million for the next couple-few years. I think he can see the potential in this team, and I hope he decides to stay. With about 50 million going to my starters next season, I do have some flexibility with cap space for my bench/etc.

Bench
Now, let me write about my second unit. My second unit is led by Thompson. He’s 24 years old who plays his heart out when he’s on the court. He’s going to become a restricted free agent. My intention is to keep him, but I hope he realizes he’s not worth the max just yet. I hope a team does not offer him the max, but if they do, I will have to consider alternatives. Trey Burke has a friendly rookie deal for the next couple seasons so he will continue to improve and grow season by season with the Warriors. Shumpert who is my shooting guard for the second unit is a great defender. He will be a restricted free agent this upcoming season. I definitely don’t think Shumpert is worth a max contract so he would be gone if another team does offer that, but I am willing to give 5-8 million dollar a year for him for a few years due to his excellent defense. Aminu has a player option of 1 million next season that I hope he takes before he becomes a free agent. I think he still needs to develop and grow on both sides of the floor. He can be a solid contributor off my bench in the future. I would offer around 3-5 million dollar contract/year if he does decline his player option. Henry Sims is another player who will become a restricted free agent this season. He’s improving, but it is definitely going to be a couple years before he makes a major impact. I am willing to give him a deal worth couple million dollars a year.

Veterans/Coach
Veterans will come and go to play on this team to win a championship (sign minimum deals) , so I’m not too worried about losing veterans due to retirements or going to other teams. Coach Karl has contract for the next few seasons. He’s one of the best coaches all time with over 1,000 victories, being a great offensive minded coach, and etc. He’s on his way to his first title with the Warriors in the future.

Summary
Overall, some major questions my team will have to answer are Beal/Lopez/Thompson/Shumpert’s contract as all their contracts will be up in the next couple seasons. Realistically, I think I will able to re-sign Beal/Shumpert and at least one of the bigs so I should be able to keep most of my players long term for the future. I do have all my picks that can help build the team as well. Also, I’m not afraid of making big moves via trades and spending via free agents if it will make my team better and think it will be take me to the next step in winning a championship. I am not worried about going into the luxury tax if that’s what it takes to win it all. My team will have a new arena in a few years that will be a sight to see. The Golden State Warriors will be in playoff contention every year as noted by making it in year 1 already, but I do see potential of winning a championship or multiple championships in the next five years. Arrows are pointing up for the Golden State Warriors. I believe the Golden State Warriors are the best futures team!

Will edit more in tomorrow but forgot to do this and now must type quickly.

On-Court Situation
The Suns made the 2nd round this year and nearly made it to the conference finals (voting was 4-4 but Grizzlies got 4 votes first). Only one of our top 6 rotation players was over 28, and our three best players were 21, 26 and 23 respectively.

We have our full compliment of draft picks as well as an extra 1st from Denver in 2016 (unprotected)

We also have an elite head coach in Rick Carlisle.

Contract situation:
Salaries ............................. 2014-15 ............ 2015-16 ............ 2016-17 ............. 2017-18
Anthony Davis (22) .............. $5,607,240 ......... $7,070,730 ......... $9,191,949
Jeff Teague (26) ................. $8,000,000 ......... $8,000,000 ......... $8,000,000 ......... ......UFA
Khris Middleton (23) ............. $915,243 . ........ $3,450,156
Danny Green (28) ................ $4,025,000 ...... ......UFA
Alex Len (21) ...................... $3,649,920 ......... $3,807,120.......... $4,823,621 ......... ..$6,396,121
Tiago Splitter (30) ............... $9,250,000 ......... $8,500,000.......... $8,250,000 ......... ......UFA
Jordan Adams (20) ............... $1,344,120 ......... $1,404,600.......... $1,465,080 ............$2,410,057

Other UFA: Mike Dunleavy Jr., C.J. Watson, Jonas Jerebko, Marcus Thornton, J.J Barea, James Jones, Matt Bonner

We will offer Middleton the qualifying offer, sign our draft pick (projected #17 or #18) and will be in a position to renounce our rights on all free agents except Danny Green ($7,647,500 cap hold)

This leaves us at $42,827,385 (5 contracts, Middleton QO, Green hold, draft pick + 3 min holds) against a projected cap of $66,500,000. Thus we will have room for a MAX free agent.. We will pitch to LeBron James and Marc Gasol.

The Pitch
Play with an All-NBA 1st team player, another All Star and outstanding floor spacers (Green and Middleton). We have a young promising big man, and will trade Splitter for extra help if you wish us to. There is no better team with cap space. We went as far as the Wizards in a weaker conference, and the best players on the Celtics are 33 and 30 as opposed to 22 and 26, plus they are capped out with little room for further improvement.

Possible Outcomes
If either player joins us, we are title favorites for 3-4 years once Davis signs his max extension and we re-up Middelton and Green using Bird Rights. Ideally we bring back Watson using the room exemption if we sign LeBron (3+D PG is useful with LBJ) or Dunleavy with Gasol (more spacing off the bench). We sign ring chasing vets, and trade our 2015 draft pick and the 2016 DEN pick with Splitter for an upgrade - Patrick Patterson, Tony Allen + Ryno, Kevin Martin, expiring Al Horford would all be targets that work under the cap rules.

Hypothetical rosters:
Teague / Watson
Green / Middleton / James / Adams
Davis / Len / Patterson
(+ Vet Mins)

Teague / Barea
Green / Middleton / K-Mart / Dunleavy / Adams
Davis / M.Gasol / Len
(+ Vet Mins)

In year 2 we would have the MLE and BAE to offer to fill the 6th man and backup C slots to make us a dominant 10 man rotation.

If they both decline, we bring back Green and Middleton for their expected deals (4/45 and the mini-max) and ask AD whether he would rather sign a 5 year max immediately or whether he wants us to pursue a 2016 free agent (Durant, Horford, LeBron if opted in) - which we could do as the cap is forecast to jump to over $90m. If we plan on going for a FA, we sign only one year deals for new players to keep our books clear.

If Davis would prefer to re-sign, we bank on internal improvement from Len and Middleton to drive us to the next tier.

Summary
We have a plan and are prepared to execute it. If it works, we are the clear favorites for years to come. If it doesn't, we have a core of Teague/Green/Middleton/Davis/Len and that could be good enough to win a title itself in 2 years. Plus we have extra draft picks to hopefully find a steal.

We feel we are a strong contender for the best win-future team.

Future
The Raptors future is a bright one in my bias and humble opinion. Planning on keeping Jimmy Butler even if it means max deal and he will be a part of my core along with Ibaka and Valanciunas in the post. Now I can also use Ibaka and Valanciunas as trade bait and get a good deal with it but for now planning on them being apart of the future. So with the core set I obviously need to see some key development. The main guy I look at is Dante Exum. I think the sky is the limit with this former 5th overall pick. He has fantastic size, his defense will be very good soon imo and he has the athleticism to excel. However, it will take him time to develop and thus may not be totally reliable for the 2015-2016 season. With that said I believe we could start to see a star born as soon as the 2016-2017 season.

Then there is the shooting guard position. I am actually very excited about this duo. Both Ben McLemore and Caldwell-Pope have seen some nice progression this year. Ben McLemore for example has improved on almost every statistical category. His fg efficiency is up to .514 which is .050 higher than a season ago. He is shooting a solid .360 from three this year up .04 from a year ago. Caldwell-Pope on the other hand has seen some modest improvements points per 36 up 4ppg, 2% improvement on threes, but has been scoring better as of late. To me they are still a little too inconsistent but has a chance to be a really nice duo at the SG position.

Then there is the point guard position which is manned by Brandon Jennings. (To Be Continued)

WRITE-UP:

I have a great young core which includes Kawhi, Monroe, Burks, and Nurkic. The veteran leader of the team is Conley, who is only 27 and is one of the top two-way PGs in the league. Our bench also has many solid young pieces with a lot of potential. We have picks, cap flexibility, and many rookie scale contracts to improve the team going forward.

The only flaw with this team is the lack of spacing, something which we plan to address in the off-season. We are extremely confident in Coach Snyder developing our younger players and getting the most out of them. In terms of the future, there is no better team out there.

What's going on with the future rankings? It has almost been a week since this thread was posted with rankings supposed to be due on the 30th and winner announced on the 31st, but obviously that didn't happen. We are so close to the finish, I don't want this to die. I can help finish this if you like me too Simon.

In case you haven't seen the email...

Sorry for delaying this for some time - I was out of town during Easter and had limited internet access.

Now that most of us had finished their write-up - Please send me your future rankings and overall rankings (two separate sets). When you do the overall rankings, you may also want to take into account the teams that made the playoffs this season.

Thanks.

Only you have sent me the ranking.

If nobody send his rankings to me within 24 hours, I am gonna declare ChicagoSportsFan21 as the champ.

The delay was too long. There are very few people interested anymore.

I haven't seen any rankings, does that mean I won? 8-)
