OT: Bars near the UC

Post#1 » by Grubdawg » Sat Apr 11, 2015 3:47 pm

Can I get some recommendations? Going to the game tonight. Are any of these poppin after a Bulls game, or do most people just go to neighborhoods to the east and north? My friends and I will be getting pretty drunk. Preferably a bar with a younger crowd. If not, just a cool bar with a good crowd. Thanks guys.

I don't know too many bars around the area, but Mahoney's is fairly close by and fun. Haven't been there in like 3-4 years but remember a kind of younger crowd there. I remember playing flip cup there which isn't something you can do anywhere.

Bars near the UC

I used to preset for Blackhawks and Bulls games at Westend on Madison a 2-3 blocks down the street east of UC. Its all Bulls or Hawks fans there, ages range from low 20's to 40's, but mostly around 20-30 year olds there. They have a free shuttle every 15 minutes to the game but its only a 10 minute walk. Usually packed before and during games. I go there often before games but I forgot the address but look it up

Crossroads Bar & Grill 1120 W. Madison

They have great food and free shuttle to the UC.

My brother is the shuttle bus driver so tell everyone to tip him. It's crazy how cheep people can be to a guy giving you a free ride.

West End as has been mentioned (they also offer a free shuttle for some games), Billy Goat is the closest (a quick walk away) with a decent bar actually, or there's Third Rail (across from West End). It depends how far you want to be. I usually go to Haymarket Brewery on the corner of Randolph & Halstead. Amazing in house brewed beer and great food. It's about a $6 cab ride from there. They only do shuttles for Hawks games now.

Thank you good sir. There is nothing like planning out a night if getting drunk and then getting drunk. Truly a great experience. Especially if you've never gotten drunk there before. We went to westend and took the shuttle here.

Never knew tipping shuttle drivers was required.

It's funny what people tip for. There is usually a tip box at the front of a shuttle bus. He is a bar employee just like everybody els. You give a dollar to the bartender for handing you a bottle across a bar, 20 percent if a waitress brings you drinks and food 20 ft. He will take you and your friends and drive you to and pick you up from the game. Also he has to miss the end of every Bulls and Blackhawks home game, and he is a big fan, that's got to be worth a couple of bucks.

Why wouldn't you? They're getting you there in one piece safely just like a cab driver or Uber driver. Just because the ride's "free", they did provide a service.

Agree. It's just a courtesy. Even a dollar. Hell, I usually even give the shuttle driver at airport car rental places a buck at least.

I'd agree west end or crossroads before game, if going out after, you can walk to the Ogden for some beers/food after. That's in the usual drinking plan for my crew.
