JR will pay the tax for a difference maker, but to pay it for a guy like Crawford would be crazy, much less a guy like Thomas, where you would have to be considered insane. He can be replaced. There are big restrictions made to improving your roster, more than just the money you send out, and do not get back, being a tax payer. He is much more likely to go $10M into the tax for a guy like Howard, than go a couple $M, for marginal players.

Going to miss big sexy. Our FC depth was a nice luxury but with no injuries he was rarely going to play anyway.

Although this crazy schedule is going to wear down our players....

Ummm. No we don't want tiny hands kwame

The players know this - the otherteams know this

He is passing on quality bench players over just a few million - but a few illio which would hurt profit.

They probably made about $81 million profit - which the investors (all non-basketball people) want for themselves. No eed to spend it on the fans or the team since seasontickets are already sold.

Tha' less flexibility - not more

I'm confused again, I thought if a team uses the MLE they can NOT go past the luxury barrier that season?

They can exceed the luxury tax by a maximum of $4M.
A team in any season that uses the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception or the Bi-Annual Exception, or that in year 3 or after acquires a free agent in a sign-and-trade transaction, cannot at any time thereafter have a team salary at any point during that season in excess of $4 million above the Tax level.

Let's put it this way, he's been in the league for an entire Bulls three-peat.

Ideally to replace Thomas the Bulls would need someone capable of making a mid range jumper at a decent % and someone not afraid to give a hard foul.

This isn't the end of the world, but lets not under estimate how good KT was for us last year all things considered.

I'd like to see Asik get more mins, but unless Taj can improve his consistency on that mid-range jumper, would be nice to add one more backup big, prefer a vet who can do what sexy did...can't think of many available to fill that role, Joe Smith from 3 yrs ago maybe...haven't seen him lately so not sure what he has left

Sad to see Big Sexy go - he was a perfect 5th big fit for us. Hope we another C that can hit a 10-12 ft jumper.

14 years is a nice run but it's time to end the Paxson era.

KCJHoop K.C Johnson
With DHoward's camp making clear his preferred destinations don't include #Bulls, don't be surprised to see them reach out to Joel Pryzbilla

I wouldn't mind The Vanilla Gorilla as a 5th big.

Big sexy played huge for Chicago when ever he was called upon. Good luck man.
To quote GetSeven
With Jimmy at the 2 spot this lineup (along with depth) has the potential to be the best since the Jordan/Pippen days easy.

I had thought that Thomas left for more money, but the minimum is the same everywhere. I wonder how much was guaranteed next season?

Kurt's more like a 4th big in Portland. They've got Camby and Aldridge, Oden's out. Gerald Wallace can play some 4, but overall they are really short on bangers.

Kurt goes to Portland, he gets 2 years (even if the 2nd is only a little bit guaranteed, it's still more money) and way more potential minutes. Dude likes to play. Can't fault him for that and the idea that he 'dissed' the Bulls in any way by not re-upping is a joke.

A diss would have been him going to Miami. Dude's got a competitive edge to him. He wants to play minutes and I don't blame him. Even though I would have liked to see him in Dallas or LA competing for a championship.

That being said, I am about 10% concerned that loosing Thomas will be a concern in regards to toughness. Kurt don't back down from no one.
